I've read that Tundras are now available with Hino diesels and Toyota will be tapping Isuzu for their small diesels. Betting in the next 2-3 years for a Taco.

That would be awesome, the Isuzu 2.8L diesel from their Trooper is a fantastic engine. Will happily run 100% submerged in water indefinitely!

Yeah... the search function (type in diesel) will give you tons of threads like this.

Unfortunately, the Tundra HD (with the 4.5L Turbo Diesel or the Hino diesel) is on hold right now because of the price of diesel here in the United States being higher than gasoline at the moment. The recent stock market panic and economic recession has forced Toyota to rethink all of its new and upcoming models.

As of this post, there are no plans by Toyota to bring a diesel engine into the United States Automobile/Truck market.

If you would like to drop a diesel in a current model Toyota, check this out...

They have had a CRD (Mercedes Benz engine) for 2 years now. Before that they had a CRD Jeep Liberty. I believe Chris4x4 owns one. I had one before my first Tacoma as well - great engine.

Let's hope that Toyota will not have the same Diesel engine that Isuzu's new truck will have. As you may know Isuzu has paired up with Nissan for Isuzu's new truck next year. I think Nissan will probably come out with it first and ride that gravy train to the bank since Nissan and Toyota are rivals. Just a thought.

^Why would Toyota do that when they already have a diesel Hilux overseas? Doesn't seem to be any advantage for Toyota to pair with a rival like Nissan.

isuzu is chevy... and builds ALL of chevys trucks... is not toyota in bed with chevy? makin deals, designs and trades with said company?

and nissans truck designs are all pretty dated, and isuzus are all relatively new.

and the next titan is coming with a Chrysler engine,

    soooooooo.......

methinks if toyota isnt gonna use one of their own deisels (and they have some pretty SICK ONES!)

    it will be isuzu.

You sure about this? I know Isuzu makes a mill for chevy's 3/4 ton pickups, but I don't they they make all of their trucks. I could be wrong, its happened before. A year or so back, Toyota bought Chevy's share of Isuzu which give Toyota some options for smaller milled diesels. Word is they even have a hybrid diesel. A taco with 40mpg? Sah-weeeeet!

GM owns Isuzu. Toyota has been partnering with GM to build some cars in the same factories. Seeing as Toyota already has a diesel engine that would meet emissions in this country, and is already in pretty much the same truck. I would think they would use it. If not scrap the tacoma and just build HiLux's... I read in a magazine that GM and chrysler are talking about a merger.

well, i guess it isnt fair to say "build" but the fullsize trucks, the canyon/colorado. the trailblazer ETC... are all isuzu designs....

and a few of the smaller cars are isuzu/toyota built

i've seen a few NUMMI (i think thats the right acronym) hhrs and a BUNCH of NUMMI cobalts. and i think toyota still runs that plant.

and the rest are from the mexican plant (which i believe pumps out a good deal of chevy fullsize trucks) that isuzu runs. sooo......

if anyone has better(or more accurate info im glad to hear it!)

i think GM backed out. im a chrysler...well, i WAS a chrysler guy. so i keep up on that company...

and the only thing GM really wanted was jeep, and i dont think chrysler wanted to get its other lines liquidated.

but for the most part, there isnt much else left to save in that company....

but for jeep, dodge sports cars/ minivans and trucks...

there isnt a single CHRYSLER worth it being produced right now.

you can pick them up pretty cheap now tho! they are just about giving 1500 rams away. If the big 3 don't get bailed out there might be some more merger talk me thinks.
