    Hi guys,

I’m trying to figure out which radio console to upgrade to. I have a stock 2015 Tacoma with the CD player touch screen from the factory. I’d like to have a more friendly apple/iPhone compatible radio console to pair with my phone and use for navigation, regular hands free phone use. Anyone recommend a good replacement unit for my application?
    Thanks!

I went with Pioneer avh-1500nex, backup camera, steering wheel controls, new speakers, all a recommended by my installer dude. Very happy. Pioneer makes several avhXXXnex. I’ve never looked to see what’s different.

Look at crutchfield if you plan to install it yourself.

I went with the Sony XAV-AX5000 and I love the way it looks, almost OEM looking. Supports Apple Car Play, which I use all the time.

A bit of advise for you...Buy the Scosche Dash kit over the Metra. Its a little more expensive but WAY worth the price. Scosche has metal mounting brackets, whereas the Metra kit uses plastic. I tried the Metra kit first and the holes didn't even line up with the factory bolt holes. I had to bend the tabs over to get it to fit. I got frustrated and ended up ordering the Scosche kit. Fit and finish of the Scosche are perfect. Link below..

You might have a hard time finding a radio right now with the global chip shortage. I looked on Crutchfield and most everything they have is sold out.

How does the Sony work with the phone text messages and calls? Do you use an iPhone in the truck?

Pioneer makes great radios I use to use them back in the day. But i was on a budget for my truck and went with the sony also mainly because it has a actual volume knob. Back up camera is great Bluetooth works fine apple CarPlay works great to. I also recommend the schose kit and the axcess or something steering wheel controls 95A33240-4873-4A35-B8CF-7C029AD4BD02.jpg

A question for anyone else who leaves the phone in the cubby below the climate control knobs. I noticed last summer, I was driving with pandora, waze and google maps all open. The phone overheated after about a hour driving. I wonder if it’s because I had too much running on the phone or engine heat hitting the cubby? I was thinking of putting some sort of insulation or doing something to not have the phone in there.

    CHEVERLY my service dog! Lol
My 2014 gets really hot down in the cubby if I’m on a long drive. I no longer put the phone there .

i really enjoy my deck, Alpine ILX-259. my only regret is not going with the ILX-309 to get the integrated vehicle information.

It works great! Sometimes people complain about hearing road noise, but that is the fault of the truck.

Here is a picture of the Sony XAV-AX5000 installed with the Scosche kit I linked above.

Any details on that blue sea USB charger replacement on the bottom/right of your pic?

I've been happy with my ILX-107, it has wireless apple carplay. Also I second the Scosche dash kit, the metra isn't great.

How did you wire your backup camera to the new radio? I have a 2010 also and my cam is in my mirror. i will be installing a Kenwood this weekend. Also is that USB adaptor a direct fit the blanks under the dash. Id be interested but doubt it makes it to NC before the install.

I love it! Capable of charging my iPad and iPhone. There is a write up on here about how to do it. It’s the Blue Sea 1045. Basically once you get the dash apart, you can de-pin the factory connector for the cigarette lighter and the spade connectors will fit directly onto the Blue Sea USB. Very easy to do if you know how the dash comes apart.

Same radio that I have in my truck. It’s a nice set for the money. I really like how the screen feels like a cell phone screen instead of the cheap squishy bad image type that is 99% of radios in that price range.

Did you upgrade speakers at all? If so, what did you end up going with?

Yes, I bought the Rockford Fosgate speakers on Amazon. I did the same upgrade Tacomaholic did on his truck. It sounds great even though it’s the factory amp. Link to his video below.

Yep, that was the ultimate deciding factor for me! I like the simplicity, almost OEM look, and the capacitive touch screen.
