My truck’s Carfax says I got my oil changed on February 20th, 2021 with 124,924 miles on the clock; Today, I hit 130K!

That’s over 5,000 miles in less than two months; A new record!

So, I was wiped out from the trip to Raceway Park yesterday and hit the sack at like 8:30pm. Of course, I woke up fully rested at like 4:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep, and as I type this my feet are still sore from all the walking I did yesterday!

 

Supposed to snow Wednesday and then stay cold again, ugh.

Well, Toyota is gonna be buying me a new frame. Just looked underneath..the piece for the exhaust hanger near the cat was hanging, so I saw a small hole on the outside of the frame rail on the passenger side. A small push and my finger went right through..1x2 inch hole on the side, plus another smaller one underneath about 12 inches back. That's just what I can see on that one section without getting underneath it.

 

It’s gonna be almost 70 degrees and stormy in mine and John’s neck of the woods on Wednesday, but below 50 and windy on Thursday...

My frame was coated per the recall back in October 2017; My local dealer recommends I bring it back for an inspection before the recall expires (12 years from date of original purchase).

 

I'd take a look see if I was you. What was the purchase date?

Yeah its about 68 here now so you sound like you will get my weather a day later, cant believe it's going to freaking snow tomorrow!

My truck is a 2010 model purchased new on September 30th, 2009; It has never failed a PA state safety inspection, and Thompson Toyota in Doylestown did my recall inspection in October 2017. My truck passed not only the Pennsylvania state inspection, but the Toyota inspection as well; No perforation was found, so they just applied the rustproofing coat. My truck last got inspected in August 2020 and my mechanic said it looked great underneath.

I am going to be inspecting the frame myself, and I would like to know what the trouble spots are for the 2nd Gen, because my truck is clean and there are no obvious signs of rust/perforation. Even if I don't find anything suspicious, I will have my mechanic give it a once over when he changes the oil this Friday. If he finds anything suspicious I will immediately bring it to the dealer. If my truck does end up needing a new frame, I am hoping that Thompson can get the job done BEFORE the first full weekend in August (Carlisle Truck Nationals; Been bringing my truck there every year since 2016 and I've won two awards).

If my frame checks out fine, which I'm pretty sure it will, then I'll have my mechanic inspect in September 2021 (My inspection is due in October 2021, but you can do it up to two months early; Last year I had it done in August 2021 because I was so damn busy). If anything turns up during the state inspection, my mechanic will find it, and I will bring it to the dealer if he does. As long as the request for a new frame (if needed) is made before September 30th of this year, then I should be good.

Anyway, where do I need to look closely for perforation on my truck's frame?

 

Did it fail the Massachusetts safety inspection or did you just find the problem yourself? How long are you going to be out of a truck?

 

Just found it myself. Not sure but they hook me up with a rental if so

 

One of my friends was offered a Camry loaner from the dealership when his 2010 DCSB needed a new frame, but he negotiated and got Toyota to pay for a Chevy Colorado from Enterprise; He and his wife both hated the Colorado!

 

I got a F150 when I got the spray.
