I’m not sure if condensate is draining, haven’t checked yet. I live in Oregon and I’ve only had a couple of hot days so far this year. Just really noticed the smell yesterday. And now the temperature has dropped again. I’ll look into it further later this evening.

I will give this a try if the other suggestions don’t solve the issue. I still don’t understand how this problem would come about when the AC has barely been used. Seems like the kind of thing that would develop over time...

look no further than my post. you can spray an anti mold coating treatment into the ducting too for extra measure, but you should be good since the truck is fairly new.

mold and mildew can form in a single day of standing water (condensation in your ducts in low points) if organic material food source is present...dirt, leaves, etc. temp changes make the problem worse.

AC runs in Defrost mode to help dry the air in the cabin. Not that I've run mine lately but depending on were you are and time of day....

    "Stank Ass AC"

The method of running the "blower only" works for the AC swamp-ass smell

Probably why they tell you to put half the can in at a time so the foam don't expand up into the fan motor. But if I were mechanically inclined I would definitely pull the fan motor and snake the clear hose closer to the evaporator core. You could see that the evap core box was full that way for sure.

This stuff works very well. I've used it before with great results.

If this doesn't work for you, they make some stronger stuff that I'd have to go look for.

You're looking to kill mold and mildew that may have built up in the evaporator box. Just about anything else is going to just cover it up and come back.

If this ends up being a recurring problem try and find a cheap ozone generator.

Sooner or later that blower will fail anyway, might a well learn how it works. Plus the core could use a good deep clean.

This has nothing to do with your cabin air filter. The source of the odor is the evaporator which is in your dash that you can't see. The liquid refrigerant flows into the evap in the dash and evaporates which causes the cooling. The evaporator looks like a radiator. It essentially is just working in reverse. As the air comes in contact with the cool surface it will cool and condensation occurs on the evap. This condensation can become trapped and encourage the growth of mold since you have created a cool dark and damp environment. That fungus is what you are smelling. You can kill it usually by just running more air over it. Hot dry air is usually sufficient. If you live in Fla like I do where it is humid year round a fogging of Lysol into the intake on recirculate for 10 minutes usually does the trick. That is usually a lot cheaper than the $30 Toyota kit.

Just looked up how to remove the fan motor and that does not look to bad. Need to buy a 5.5mm socket on Amazon though. Yeah I may be able to save some coin when mine goes out.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
Perhaps this whole experience will convince the OP that GM trucks are the only trucks worth owning.
