My problem right now is my income. ~45K won’t allow me to rent a house with a single car garage or covered parking. I have a welder and a shit ton of tools I’d like to keep. There are apartments with attached garages built out of an old storage unit lot. But the waitlist is long since the Air Force guys like those. $800 a month.

So then I considered a really shitty $550 apartment and a $450 shop rental with power and climate control. But that’s almost in house rental range.

So I was back to considering roommates. The guy I wanted to live with insists on garaging a Chevy Sonic/Cruze thing. Which means we had to look for large two car garages. Then he dropped the bomb on me last night that if we get a house his little brother (moving here in fall for school) would have to live with us. Who also requires a garage for his brand new Chevy Sonic as well.

Maybe it’s for the best and I dodged a bullet. But I’d like to keep wrenching and not live in an apartment.

A friend of mine and his wife did that for awhile after they got married. He was trying to figure out what to do career-wise, didn't really get into the same field I did even though we went to school together.

Then he took over his father's firearm accessory manufacturing biz, moved it to ID and is doing great nowadays

I’ve worked on a 2013 and 2015 Sonic and the car infuriates me. Just a terrible shitty car. Their parents aren’t very savvy when it comes to the automotive world. They buy each of their children last years model for high school graduation.

Man if I was gonna buy my kid a car for graduation, it wouldn't be a domestic economy shitbox lol.

It would be a Japanese economy shitbox

Out here in West Texas Japanese/Korean cars are seen as anti-American. The mother drives a Chevy Equinox and their dad has a cat eye.

Yeah, some people would scoff at the idea but when a couple gets through times like that and comes out of it even stronger (not further apart), it definitely means something.

Which is funny considering domestics aren't really even domestic anymore, if anything some imports are more domestic (or at least creating more domestic jobs) than the 'domestic' companies.

But yeah I could see that mentality still thriving in some areas

    4 run, 2 don't
So...just had a long talk with my MIL.

She basically echoed the words my girl told me just a few weeks ago; take time off work when we get the new house and pursue a trade school/training/school with my GI bill for awhile instead of rushing into another job.

The internal struggle being I've been raised as a "the man is the bread winner of the household, he is supposed to take care of his home, etc" so it's hard to imagine not working for awhile and letting her cover the expenses...
