    Oncall Technician:

·Biological or natural resource field experience

·Degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, environmental science or a related field, or working towards a degree and have completed coursework in these fields

·Have a passion for learning, the outdoors, and natural resources

·Can handle the rigor of field work (long days working in adverse weather, walking all day over difficult terrain while keeping a sharp mind and making keen observations)

·Ability to identify plant and wildlife species in the field using field guides and dichotomous keys

·Work well in a team environment

Basically plant surveys is what it sounded like, while getting to know more about environmental regulations.
Not super exciting, but again, it's about the experience.

I think I'd have to find another job that'd work with the on call part though.

Definitely wasn't hired on the spot.

Yeah. Its easy to armchair quarterback it from over here, but I know I'd feel awkward if someone else were buying the groceries. But sometimes thats just the best thing.

At least you're bringing the GI bill to the table.

could you do school and work part time to ease your guilt and sense of obligation?

    Yeah.

I'm slowly accepting of the idea just the fact that I brought it out in the open here, rather than completely tossing the idea away as I have in the past.

Guess I just needed some sort of reassurance from outsiders in knowing whether or not it'd be the right choice.

I don't think there's a "right" choice just varying degrees of better and worse. Either way it seems like you have the opportunity to change your mind based off of how it's going at whichever you initially decide, yeah?

GF still gets on my ass from time to time about pulling out money for applying to med school and shit. Told her if she aint willing to be with me rn making this money she wont be here when im making 6 figures.

Love and happiness never should correlate to cash flow, it helps, but is not the foundation for everything. Do what you wont regret on your deathbed in this life time.

Dude that is badass, don't down play it.

I had wanted to do some Forest Service work, just to be outdoors.

Had met a chick way back on a fireroad (when I had my Frontier) and she did similar work to what I mentioned. She was tracking Condors that had moved from one state park to another, and had trouble accounting for them all.

They were tagged and monitored via radio signal. We had a long chat that day, super cool chick. Wonder if she's still doing it.

Oh, I also got offered a FS job today, but it would require rent or a 45 minute commute.

and I don't know how they'd handle the on call thing.

As someone who's chained to a desk in a basement for the last year, that sounds amazing. Pair it up with a part time desk job and you'd have a nice balance.

That's why I went into what I went into.

Not chained to desk or a tree

and I'm not breaking my back everyday.

Fortunately, GI bill, whatever benefits she gets as a spouse, and my disability. And depending on the hours/units, GI bill helps with cost of living (if it's full time).

That and my healthcare is covered so there's one less expense.

I guess I could but the support is so strong, they would want me to solely focus on school/trade school.

That sounds very doable, and not at all deadbeat.

Think of it this way, learning would be your new job. Definitely wouldn't be lazing about on the couch, ordering new parts for the storage unit.
