Maybe head down into young somewhere. I have played around back there at all other than just driving through. And the Xrunner can make it. (keeping on topic)

    Whats up with the truck?

Thats where we went out when all those people died last year. Took me 3 hours plus to do the road up to young and top of the rim.

Alright. So no tracks near you or clubs that you've found locally, but you want to practice your driving and drift techniques.

Well, there are a couple of options - I'll work under the assumption that you've already done a relatively thorough search for clubs.

Nearly all localities have driving schools that teach basic driving skills. It's likely that at least some of those schools offer advanced driving courses, where they teach car control techniques for extreme situations, many of which can be applied to drifting.

Manufacturers often sponsor advanced skills development events where owners can attend and learn how to drive their cars to full potential - BMW, Porsche, and other performance brands are well known for doing this. Of course, you typically have to own a model from the manufacturer in question, but these events can work well.

There are most likely drivers near you who share your desire. You could take the lead and find a few like minded drivers and start your own club. Once you've got some members, then you can look for suitable places to rent for track days. When I started drifting, there were no nearby road course tracks. The local drag strip wouldn't allow us to do events there, so we rented a decommissioned air strip to run track days.

It was the same patch of tarmac that the local police training school used to train officers the specific driving skills required by police. The airport it was attached to was operational, but the strip we rented wasn't in use by any aircraft.

Small regional airports often have old runways they no longer use for aircraft for one reason or another. They're a good place to start, and often can advise you of other places that will rent parking lots or tarmac for private events like that.

We also rented a private logistics lot (where transport trucks are parked and local shipping happens) at night, when there was no transport business going on.

If you approach it creatively, it's possible to find any number of private lots that can be rented. I've even seen clubs rent sections of mall parking lots for events.

As long as you've legally rented a lot for a track day event, police won't ticket you. It's a good idea to contact the local police when renting a lot, just to let them know what will be going on, from when to when, and that you want to do these events as a responsible club that wants to provide a safe venue to drift, etc, rather than have drivers practice on public roadways, which is dangerous. As long as you can explain that your members want to be responsible drivers who only slide around at track days and not on streets you should be able to get the police on your side or at least to view your club as positive citizens instead of street racers.

That's pretty much my best advice. If you're serious about practising safely, start a club and develop relationships with authorities. If you involve the police by asking them what they require in order to allow such events, they may even help you out with possible locations to rent. After all, they want to ensure public safety, and getting their input demonstrates that you wan to do things the right way.

    Hope this helps.
