37’s... Anyone crazy enough?

40’s for me means heart transplant.
Already building the new heart.

Did anyone happen to take a picture of their 37s mounted before you annihilated your firewall? I want to get an idea of how drivable/not drivable it might be, if I can’t do the firewall right away.

Also, does anyone have a picture of your UCA clearance? If so, what is your backspacing?

You can barely drive with 35s unmodified, 37s might not even bolt on without hitting.

If your thinking of jumping straight from stock to 37s, Ill tell you it's a big mistake, wheel with 35s and see if you need to upgrade. 37s will tear your truck apart if you haven't don't the required modifications. If your already set on 37s, I would say get spindle,Lca,and uca gussets before tires. And either look into the jd fab kit or a cab mount relocate, and then buy the tires and then tub.

37s are usually only good for trail use, you will see most of the guys that have them will trailer their viechles places or don't daily drive them. On road performance usually sucks.

 

In terms of the firewall before tubbing, definitely do not mount the tires if you plan to drive at all prior to tubbing. My firewall was already bashed as far backwards as possible, as well as a cab mount relocate, and when I put the 37s on, I could turn enough to safely drive on roads. Wouldn't have even been able to make right hand turns safely. In terms of your UCA clearance, look up people with 315s or 35x12.5 to see what backspacing works best. Everyone that I know with a tacoma on 37s has 37x12.50R17 and the width is the same. I also heavily recommend listening to @CGoss. If you haven't been wheeling with 35s and often needed a larger tire for the obstacles, I would avoid 37s. FWIW my tacoma is now a trailer queen who gets driven to work once per week, only because its 10 miles of country roads to my current jobsite.

 

I didn’t think to mention my current setup. I’m on BFG KM3 35s with a CMC just about touching the cab mount itself, SPC uppers adjusted to move the tires forward as much as we could with a reasonable alignment, cut fenders, and not much inner fender plastic left.

That’s why I thought I might be able to drive the truck before I can get to tubbing. I’m probably going to use my 37x12.5r16.5 BFG Baja tires from my other truck to create a tubbing plan this weekend.

 

I think I added these photos to this thread once, but here’s the 37” Baja sitting next to my 35s. It looks like... a good time getting them to fit. Granted, I think the HMMWV tires are a taller 37 than most and there’s obviously no weight on it in the photo.

 

I’m going on 2-3 years on 35s and they worked well wheeling but not enough stuff broke. My steering rack is about to fall out and I have poly bushings sitting in the garage but I thought I would’ve snapped a CV or lower by now.

For the 37s, it’ll be cab mount relocate, tubbed, SPC uppers, stock lowers until they break, and stock CVs. I have Nitro 5.29s so I’m hoping a CV breaks before the gears do.

I’m doing this because I like doing dumb shit with my truck and because I will be doing a solid axle swap in 2022 but I want something juicy to hold me over until then.

Me and @TacomaDad18 are basically following the same route of stupidity.

 

I say do it and cut the crap out of everything.

 

I was thinking I’ll just cut a hole in the firewall and leave it open so I can look at the tire and be my own spotter.

I think I do. But I tend to stay low key lol

 

If your easy on the throttle your cvs can last a while, you'll probably only break them if your bound up or only 1 tire is touching the ground.

I've only broken a few cvs and they were cheap parts store ones. I've gone through 3 steering racks though and 5 tie rods, only 1 bent tie rod though, others were excessive play.

I also haven't tubbed, anything fast than 20mph on a trail and I rub, but slow crawling has been fine with my gimped uptravel from my superbumps.
