How long did you have to wait for your 2021 factory order?

Most of this has been discussed if you flip back a few weeks from this thread. My build was delayed 4 days but was built on 4/16 rather than the 4/12 date I was originally given at the beginning of March. Not too shabby if you ask me. I think it’s really difficult to know what dates will hold up and when their extra supply of chips, etc will start to dry up. Maybe it won’t at all. Nobody really knows. If it says it was built then it was built and you are in the same boat as many of us just waiting for the shipment to come in. My dealer told me he is hearing that the delivery delays are done for right now. But again, who knows. Some are receiving their truck 3 weeks later and others are waiting 6 or 7 weeks for it to arrive from the factory. Hell, my Amazon deliveries are taking 3-4 weeks occasionally and usually it’s a couple days at most. Crappy time to buy a vehicle but have hope and be patient.

My dealer sent me a screenshot of his computer showing the build date and expected arrival date. I also can’t track it through the app right now. Nobody really has answers. Unfortunately...

I put deposit down on 2/13 for an AG OR DCSB with 6MT. Got word from dealer that it's build date was scheduled for May 27th.
We'll see how these part shortages come into play but at least it's a start.

 

Well I got my real VIN today, truck was built yesterday. Dealer said it should hit the regional port (SET unfortunately) 5/4 and hit the dealer 5/14.

I added the vin to the app so hopefully in a day or so the tracking starts to work.

I traded the SR for a VW Tiguan because I hated it and I missed having a truck so upgrading to a DCSB OR 4x4.

 

Yeah I lived with the POS 3 years 42 k mile lease

 

I just picked up my TRDOR DCSB. Paid the deposit on 4/9.

Guys help me find the truth here.

Cancelled my "factory order" today after 54 days and still no confirmation from Toyota. The dealer was far from helpful, so I started calling other dealers in the area...

Eventually one told me there is no such thing as a factory order and hasn't been for a decade. They claimed any dealer offering such a thing was simply promising that, then searching allocation for a matching truck.

Is this true?? I am so ticked right now having waited two months, spent $10k+ on parts and orders and now am not receiving the truck that I "ordered"...

 

dealers can make requests and hope they get a matching allocation, and have some limited abilkity to tweak allocations they already have (but requires factory approval), but they can guarantee nothing 'ordered' unless they already have matching allocation (& pre-produciton VIN). been through same, after months ended up with a very high volume dealer who had a 'close' allocation match. Dealers (or some salesmen) not always forthcoming with this bit.

 

I have had a VIN and was told truck was built 4/8. Just waiting on it to arrive. I haven’t been able to find anyway to track it online. I talked to the dealer on 4/19 who said it was in New Mexico on a train.

 

This opaqueness and the shady salesmen has really turned me off. The Taco I've got is cool but not the truck I want to dump money into, and this whole experience (4/4 dealerships have been horrible) has me rethinking even getting the Taco I want, and simply switching to something like a RAM just to avoid further hassle.

 

The way it was explained to me at the dealership when I went in for a very specific build, was that they search allocations. When I requested mine, they found it and had to trade an allocation to a Houston dealership to get it. I got lucky and mine was built in San Antonio which is three hours from my house. I requested it 2 weeks ago and picked it up last night.

This is generally how I understand it as well. A dealer is slated to get roughly X number of Tacomas based on sales history, etc. They essentially "request" a specific build as one of the X Tacomas they are going to be getting. Then they wait for a match at the factory and the factory says, Ok that build you wanted we have a match. It is yours.

The facotry does not take the order, put it in a queue and specifically build it just for the dealer who requested it. This is why unicorn builds are still hard to come by and have a bit of a wait even when the dealer requests a specific build.

Note I said "generally how I understand it", I am not an expert here. Just how my dealer explained it to me, dumbed down version, cause after all I am a Californian and I hear we are mainly stupid here.

 

Hooo boy, so called all over today and found a voodoo blue TRD Sport ACLB V6 MT that is being delivered in TWO WEEKS.

Talk about lucky. Yeah, I gotta travel to STL to pick it up, but that's just the price I have to pay for bad taste.
