not sure exactly what caused it but i blew the driver side rear strut

it's been very cold out so maybe the seal froze then when i backed up it popped out, either way it spewed the oil out

i was wanting to do a full lift next year, so i don't want to have to buy new struts now

anything wrong with swaping in a non TRD rear strut for the time being? i'd just like to get one from a junk yard if i could

or even just buying a crappy replacement shock for now

    any advise would be great

    thanks

if its just a temporary fix then go for it. it may ride a little weird if the suspension is different on both sides on the rear of the truck but if you can live with it till you get the new stuff then i dont see a problem if you dont.

x2. If you're looking in a junk yard, maybe get the non-TRD used for both sides in the rear so it'll at least be the same side to side. If you've had the TSB done your springs may be a little bouncier with non-TRD shocks but it'll get you by til you get your lift.

I don't know if I am understanding right? Did you blow a rear factory Bilstein shock?

Damn, guess I'll have to read a little more next time... Good catch, but it simplifies the solution a bit.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

LOL he don't have struts out back he has shocks.

I wonder if it would even be worth it to go to a junk yard to get a shock. they might want like 30 bucks a shock. You can get some 5100's for not much more then that.

yes, hence the :p IMO, 2 new rears would be the ticket. If one blew then the other can't be that much better off.

ya i know...and 5100's are what i'm going to get

and new fronts, coils and leafs...but that's money i don't have right now....
    diamond rings are expensive lol

could i put 5100's and run then with the stock leafs (which are pretty flat), i don't want to cause extra wear on the 5100's and wear them out prematurely

I was asking about the shock because I am about to put some 5100s on my sons 1998 Xtended Cab. I was going to keep the Factory Bilsteins for spares since I only have 22,000 miles on the truck.

But, I have a soft spot for people that served in the military. So if you have served in the military, I will give them to you.
