We have metal (about 15 years old) and it's been great. It has 1 or 2 layers of shingles under it.

    Good morning!

About 2 years ago I reroofed our store, the pitch isn't as bad as the house. Thanksgiving day I tore the entire old roof off, busted the chimney below the roof, patched that hole, took out 2 attic fans and patched those holes, by myself. I was whooped. The next day I had some friends come over and we put down a new metal roof. Looking back I don't see how I did so much by myself in one day.

Looks like a great job and an ass-ton of work, but why did you choose to go exposed fastener?

If you ever do it again, check into the Snap-Lok (or one of the dozen other trade names); it's a hidden fastener type where no tools are required, such as in traditional standing seam, and goes together just as quick as regular exposed fastener. About half the buildings we have on the fairgrounds are exposed fastener, and the others are hidden, and the you will NEVER regret the little extra you spend for a hidden fastener roof.

We did our roof 5 years ago quote for metal vs shingles was 5 k more. Our pitch is not to insane but still don’t like walking on it B82CC91D-6B3B-48AD-BC43-F057E0B64004.jpg We did the metal hidden fastener glad we did.

My wife won't stop talking about a pergola. I told her we don't need no pergola. She sent me links to some pergolas. I can't see paying $1,400 for a pergola.

I've been pricing lumber to build a pergola myself

Her sketch. She knows if she draws it I’ll make it, it’s like a challenge and I can’t fight it :D

My wife wanted a pergola on our patio. It took me months but I finally convinced her that it wouldn't block ANY sun in the evening and would be worthless. I built my wall instead.

I did do a pergola-like top on it, though.

If I tell my wife I want something, she usually doesn't fight me about it. I have to look at it that it's something she wants, she doesn't ask for much and if it makes her happy then so be it.

You don't want a post in front of the window. That was one of the things I used to talk my wife out of one. You'd have to go to a ledger board over the windows and door instead. Doing that on mine would mean it would have to be about 10 feet off the ground.

Don't get me wrong, I love how they look but for ours, I needed it to serve a purpose instead of just looking good.

Since we had the pecan tree cut down in the back yard we have no afternoon shade, that's what she's after. We're out there on Sunday afternoons if it's not too cold, that's it cause we work 6 days a week. We have shade late in the evening but we're usually headed in for supper then.
