Mine are from TRS. I’ve tried swapping but no luck!

I built some harnesses last night to evaluate the difficulty. It’s definitely a steal to get the eBay harness for $50. Took me all night to complete two sets which I had previously started. Mine is a bit more complicated due to the intent to tap grille lights but even so it is a lot of schlepping to get all the pieces together.

Also, fun fact, diodes in the photo are oriented incorrectly by mistake because I was tired.

To be clear, we are talking about the fact that the low beam in the Tacoma OEM harness supplies power and ground opposite of high beam. Fortunately it is possible to simply flip the connector to test though it won’t lock cleanly in place. The high beam supplies ground so without that correctly seated you won’t have any functionality.

The locking tabs on the H9 males are slightly different on each side as the OEM connector is asymmetrical. The tab closer to the nose goes on the open side and the one more in the middle goes on the “back” or more closed side. Many have reported that TRS does this backwards on the low beam and has both high and low the same. Halogens don’t care about polarity but of course LED’s do.

It’s all quite confusing and even worse, on passenger side, OEM uses two dark blue and one light blue, light for turn and dark for low beam and DRL (or parking light, one of the two). Which is another possible cause of confusion / error. I went with candy cane white/red for driver low beam off solid red OEM and white / blue for passenger low beam off solid blue to have differentiation and consistency. Also the grille light tap more clearly identifies driver side so the color match is obvious. It is possible to swap the two between driver and passenger and have things working without the color match.

Installed mine a few months back on my 17, adapters from TRS. Love them over the previous pairs.

I tried doing some flipping and now ONLY the DRLs on both lights. Even after reversing what I flipped high/low will not come on. Is it possible to ruin the harness just by doing it incorrectly? Checked fuse box and everything was good.

No, should not be possible to damage LED’s with reversed polarity.

A photo showing both sides of each connector would likey help troubleshoot further

Hopefully this photo works. A bit cramped in there.

Passenger side flip both I think. Driver side flip low only.

Oem white with black goes to solid black across the board. That should help simplify.

Looks like their harness has multiple grounds which potentially explains the observations

Your headlights should be fine but it’s possible that with multiple grounds you could have blown a low beam or high beam fuse. No big if you did. And you said you checked so I assume you got that part.

I started off just by flipping both passenger and still got nothing.

EDIT: Just realized I checked the wrong fuses. Both are blown lol. Gotta go grab some more, but I think I’ve at least got them wired correctly now.

A single ground is safer for this reason. Tying multiple grounds together isn’t a great plan on reversible connectors.

The safest possible plan might be to take ground off the DRL but I think the reason we pick high beam ground is because that circuit is spec’d for 65 watts for halogens so should be the beefiest.

After modifying quite a few sets of these, I finally got to take apart a set of pro’s. Not sure if this has been a known thing here since I’m not too active in this thread but...

The big question finally answered: Can you just remove the illuminated “trd” and “pro” on the trd pro headlights? Yes, yes you can. Identical to the base headlights, just a little trim plate.

I don't suppose there is a number on that piece anywhere? It'd be fun to try some pumpkin carving on it...

I don’t believe so, I highly doubt you’d be able to get it separately. It is something that could easily be duplicated by someone who can 3D print though.
