Pliers to remove and put back on. if you can't get it back on, might have to run to and auto parts store for a generic replacement?

So Cal guy here too. Mine got stolen on the only night I didn't lock it. There are 3 Tacomas and a Raptor on my block with no tailgate right now. Its crazy

I was 20 miles and had been driving on fumes ha, was actually at a gas station just couldn’t get the damn thing off. Finally did abs filled up and got it to the dealer, they reinstalled the tank on the wrong notch

 

Thanks yeah I managed to get my fingers in there enough to twist it out

That is crazy. I leave in an area fortunately where this kind of thing is not prevalent. I have however woke up in the middle of the night thinking “did I lock the tailgate?” Not really thinking about the tailgate but the tools I store in a easy to carry away tote. Think I’m gonna invest in a remote tailgate lock!

 

I live in an area where if you leave a diaper bag on the seat in your car, it wouldn't be unlikely to wake up to a broken window and no more bag. That actually happened on my block twice last year. I completely empty everything out of my truck every night and lock it up. I'm super stressed about the lights that I just added, and hope the make it long enough for my tamper resistant hardware to show up.
