    Correct.

But you originally posted, "Isn't 91 aki european? This would translate to 87 in the states."

Had you said, "Isn't 91 RON european? This would translate to 87 AKI in the states", I would have agreed.

91 or 93. Modern engines can actually make use of the higher octane.

I've done the same on my 17 taco but first 10,000 miles I ran 87 octane after premium ball the way

I met a while back a fellow hunter in North Carolina who was very eager to talk about gasoline, he talked about the additives that go into gasoline.
The different companies that make the fuel more refined such as Shell, Chevron, Mobil, Costco and so on, these all make top tier gasolines and they add detergent, additives and other chemicals that raise the octane, it will make a cleaner pass from throttle body to catalytic converters producing better combustion giving extra miles per gallon and a lot cleaner internal engine parts valves, pistons, heads.
For instance 85 87 89 don’t have the additives that 93 92 and 91 have he just plainly said don’t waste your money on 89 it has more than 87 but it doesn’t have the additives and chemicals that 91 and above have. Now the final subject was he drilled wasif you want to have a clean motor when remove the valve covers you have to use high octane Top tier gasoline 93 if you can afford it it will give few extra miles and a cleaner combustion chamber and exhaust parts. But 87 top tier is also good
At this point I asked how do you so much about gasoline and replied I was an ex Exxon chemical engineer and now I own a fuel hauling company I pick up at the refinery and deliver gas stations, marinas and any one who has 1000 gallon tank minimum.
He likes Costco’s fuel because it almost the same as Shell, Chevron Exxon Mobil and its usually 10 to 15 cents cheaper.
Top Tier is cheaper in the long run. Your Taco will love it.

It is the same, no one has an exclusive contract with Costco for fuel. What ever Top Tier refiner is in the area, the same fuel from that spigot is at Costco.

Reason its less because they only carry regular and premium (no mid grade) credit card only, no fun n run store to pay for. No extra frills just gas and go.

If l am not mistaken the mid grades basically happen right at the gas station. The pump pulls directly from both the Regular and Premium tanks and mixes them.

True mileage alone would not make it up, but performance and mileage may for some. I think that's more of a personal decision for us.

I think what may be happening here is that the octane listed is not true and/or the higher octane level you are using is likely where it needs to be for your conditions. I mentioned earlier that I have known people that measure octane levels. One measured octane at multiple gas stations for the lowest level and it was consistently 1-3 points below stated number on average. Even one point can be bad. E85 is even worse and notorious for causing blown engines(tuned engines) A buddy of mine is having is $44k engine rebuilt because of this exact issue. Over tuned on ideal fuel octane(E85) and actual fuel octane considerably lower. He actually drives around with an octane reader of some kind lol. I should find out the brand and get one myself.

I do believe this to be true becasue of the ability of not just the ecu to change conditions but because of the VCT becoming so popular.

I never heard of this but it would be efficient I guess to do this.

I use either Shell or Chevron 91 almost exclusively. Don’t make any claims about horsepower or MPG advantages but I have read that the less ethanol in your gas, the better off your engine will be long-term. Premium has the lowest percentage of ethanol and is primarily why I use it since I’m so heavily invested in my mods and want to keep the truck as long as possible

I can’t even get 87 around here. 86 is about standard and it works fine. I’ve never noticed a difference when I could get higher octane. The truck runs exactly the same.

Now my Indian Chief Springfield gets the highest octane I can find because it’s a high Comp engine and requires it. The truck gets whatever is available and usually the cheapest I can find and it’s fine with that...

87, top tier only, typically Shell, but occasionally BP when I cross the state line where it's anywhere from 20 to 45 cents cheaper.

That is true. The statement that 89 doesn't have the chemicals / additives that 91 has isn't accurate. It will only have half of the additives per volume, however.

LOL. $2.11 for premium. Here, 87 octane is about $3 per gallon. I have no idea what 93 octane is because I won't pay for it.

Well, this is from one year ago. I just filled up at $3.05 a gallon for 93 the other day. The KDMax and OVTune flashes really make it shine.
