Yeah, start looking around on EV West to get a start. They build custom battery packs from disassembled Tesla cells in different configurations (#P#S - Number in parallel, number in series) to both allow for power (series) and kW range (parallel). Their youtube shows some of their projects and is a good place to start learning the terminology and components.

From there, your google searches for "custom tesla battery pack" and such will lead you more into the DIY realm like this guy who has been hacking around with the Tesla components.: https://www.youtube.com/c/RichRebuilds/

Looking for recommendations on what AGM 6v batteries to use for the new camper solar setup, if anyone has any input for good or bad brands.

I tried searching and got bubkiss.

Somewhere in the last year or two I was mentioning a topper hoist system with electric winch here. Someone installed one i their garage and said “let me know if you need help designing it.”

    Well, I need help.

If was you, thanks in advance. If anyone else has insight, please let me know. Thanks.

Looked into lithium? I've been eyeballin them for the average life cycles and the ability to use more of the rated power stored in the battery. Still a tough sell on the costs if there is an early failure, if it lives it full lifespan the costs are less for lithium. My electric tools that run lithium batteries for years are really beginning to sell me though.

I recently found out that there is significant weight savings on Lithium, think it was on a youtube video on a Land Rover converted to EV using Tesla components, but little info on how they did it.

    It might have been me.

I was considering using an electric hoist with this, but it’s super easy to raise and lower my big ass RTT by hand with the included 3-turn block and tackle, so I bailed on the hoist. It isn’t cheap, per se, but I wasn’t in the mood at the time to design and build a home brew setup. YMMV.

I will say that ANY hoist system is a game changer. The tent lives in the shop and is only on the truck for camping trips. And I can park the truck under it with plenty of room to spare.

EDIT: They aren’t shown, but I added a 600lb rated ratchet strap on each end to actually hold the tent when it’s being stored. I’m sure the included jumar-type rope holder is adequate, but I didn’t want to find out the hard way that it isn’t.

Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure it was you.

That Harken system is what I’ve been eyeing up.

But I’m all about automation if I could just push a button and voila!

I might pick your brain about your system.

    This and that...

I put in a SOK 200AH battery into my camper solar setup and very happy with it. Not quite sure how to make a 12v work in a 6v system though. Definitely a high quality battery at a great price, main reason they keep selling out. Comparable to the Battleborn batteries that the gold standard in many eyes at half the price. Even compared to Renogy they are still cheaper. The review and breakdown is in the video below. It's a huge weight savings and and with up 8000 cycles you'll obviously save money in the long run not to mention you can use 100% of the capacity without issue. Also a 7 year warranty.

Excellent work Nancy Drew however it was much more recent than 2016. It was Jubei.

Although that guy’s “push of a button” system has me intrigued. Too bad there’s no info or real good pics of it.

    That's pushing two buttons :D

I guess my next question is... do you just leave the controllers hanging down from the ceiling? I should probably figure out a way to wall mount the winch and have it run through a couple of pulleys along the ceiling.

It's much easier to just purchase a 2nd truck and place a dedicated camper on top.
