I now own a Smitty build roof top tent.
It’s 117 pounds. This thread is for ideas on how to store these things when it’s not on the truck.

Hang it? Shelf it? Please post here!

Mine's stored at the REI where I never bought it. :cookiemonster:

Garage pulley lifts are like 30 bucks on Amazon, and they are perfect for things like that.

I just have it standing on its side against the garage wall when I don’t use it. Now it doesn’t come off the truck.

I've seen folks do this, then maybe to anchor points into the studs and a ratchet strap holding it so it doesn't tip over.

mine either stays on the truck, or i lay it flat on a pallet in my garage on the rare occasions I can enlist the help of a friend to take it down.

My storage solution is far from elegant. I bribe a couple friends with beer, and we carry it down to my basement and lean it up against a wall. I only take mine off for the winter, so it's once on and once off per year. It's a pain in the ass to bolt and un-bolt from the roof rack on the topper.

I know lots of members use this for install/removal, I think some might leave it hanging as well. Guess you'd have to ask yourself how comfortable you are with doing so. If it causes you any anxiety at all, I would just say to stand it up against the wall in whatever direction it will lean easily, or lay it flat somewhere if you have the space.

Personally I wouldnt do just one point of lift. If it were me, I'd do four:

Strap the tent on the underside of the rack, and have bonus camping gear storage up top.

Hung from the ceiling, powered winch to raise and lower it.

This is what I did but I replaced the plastic pulleys with some metal ones. Drill/punch out the rivet, new pulley with a bolt and nut. The lift I used was marketed for kayaks and claimed $150lb capacity but no way I would lift that much weight on the plastic pulleys.

I think there might be some apples/oranges comparison going on here.
