The sheer number of moving parts in a conventional engine, and transmission along with u-joints etc. Vs. the number of moving parts on an electric vehicle puts your "feeling" at a deficit. My car requires a brake service every so often (which it will likely be a long time before it needs pads and rotors because of regenerative braking).

My truck on the other hand.... That thing threw a P0300 code and was a MFer to sort out. it only had 64k miles on it and if I didn't have the tools and equipment to handle it on my own, it would have likely been a couple thousand bucks just in diagnostic time and a shotgun blast of parts.

Just out of curiousity, what was the problem and solution on your code issue?

In February 2021, the U.S. had almost 100,000 charging outlets for plug-in electric vehicles (EVs). A considerable sum of these chargers is found in California, with almost 32,000 power outlets.

Number of public electric vehicle charging stations and charging outlets in the U.S. as of February 16, 2021 - https://www.statista.com/statistics/416750/number-of-electric-vehicle-charging-stations-outlets-united-states/#:~:text=Electric vehicle charging stations and outlets in U.S. - February 2021&text=In February 2021, the U.S.,with almost 32,000 power outlets.

As California goes, so goes the nation......

I can go to the Walmart down the street and they have a dozen electric vehicle chargers. At our office complex there are 20 in the parking garage. They are all over the place out here. It's coming to your neck of the woods sooner than you think.

Ended up needing a fuel trim relearn with GM software on a tablet.

Previous owner did plugs, wires, coils, battery, alternator and a host of other things. I just swapped the intake manifold gasket and plugged it in and started diagnosing.

Where in NY are you? I'm an hour and a half north of NYC and have 3 Tesla super chargers, and about 14 either (free) municipal chargers or destination chargers (which are often also free, but much slower). Another hour north of me there are also plenty of charging options, along with nearly every major highway. beside the Catskills and Adirondack park, there are chargers all over the place. I just plug in overnight in the driveway and have a "full tank" every morning. (the car automatically shuts off the current when it doesn't need it and you can schedule the timing for winter hours so it conditions the battery and warms it up for more efficiency right before the scheduled departure time. If plans change one can hop on the car's app and change the time or click a button to start the climate control to warm up the interior and the battery pack.

How big is your office complex? More than 20 workers? I work in a plant with 1300 employees. I don’t think 20 charging stations would be efficient for all of our employees. But we currently have 0. Who’s paying for all this power at these “free” public charging stations? There’s no doubt the infrastructure isn’t there yet. And you can have 5 million charging stations, if the grid can’t handle the load, it does 0 good. You’ll need a lot more solar farms, wind farms, and hydro plants to make up for the coal and nuclear facilities they want to close. And I don’t see that void being filled anytime soon with the little bit some people are able to put back on the grid on a long sunny summer day.

While there may looking like there’s tons of stations unfortunately a dot the size of 1/50 of NY or 1/25 of another state surely isn’t an accurate representation. Of course it’s going to look like the United States is covered with charging stations.

Charging is just a part of the equation. Mining all the materials for the batteries, recycling of damaged and exhausted batteries, battery tech, all have to make huge strides to be able to keep up with the supply and demand. It’s a lot more complex than people think or realize.

Niagara region. A few around Buffalo and the Falls. The feast are pretty much all at the Dealerships, besides in my city the one they put in at our city hall when most of the time has a city car parked there charging. Keep in mind this is an area which supplies a lot of power for the east coast. Electric cars just aren’t real popular here anyways. Lots of snow around the area and cold temps like the rest of the north east. Most people have 4x4s or awd vehicles. Most are GM or Ford due to the plants in the area.

They aren't free. Tesla rolled free supercharging into their early models but it's not free anymore from what I understand. The consumer pays for the charging stations.

I know a lot of them you have to pay. Especially the Tesla charging stations. But some of these are being advertised as free. So I’m just wondering where the expense of those are coming from. I used to work for the largest auto group in the state which owns a few of the dealerships in my town that are listed on the map as charging stations. While they do have charging stations they are meant for sold vehicles and for vehicles that are in for service. They aren’t public by any means. Yet they are listed on these maps for people looking for charging stations. Funny. Looks like it’s propaganda

Hmm never seen a charging station advertised as free. Interesting. All the non Tesla chargers I have seen you have an account or pay by the charge.

You claimed people are making things up with no factual information, after
A few of my comments. Saying things I said have been stated already a few times. So I’m assuming your talking about my comments and that they are non factual and have already been said by other people.

I'm pretty sure California is aiming to allow only zero-emissions vehicles, not electric vehicles only. This is a great nudge for innovation in the electric, hydrogen, zero-emission gasoline, and probably "things that I don't know about" area.

I would drive an electric Tacoma with more power, more towing capacity, more range, cheaper, and quicker recharge.....its coming folks and will be a no-brainer for many.

EV’s are no doubt the next step in the future. I’m just saying it’s more complex than most people think and will require multiple strides in many different aspects to achieve a smooth transition.
