Whos revalved their front coilovers for a heavy truck that likes to go fast?
Looking to get some recommendations in terms of the valving. I know all our trucks are different so its a bit in the air, but at least getting ideas will help steer in the right path.

Current front setup: King EXT w/ adjusters (700lb coils), 2.0 compact bumpstops (200psi)
Truck weight: 6500lb's, 50/50 weight balance between axles

So far the plan is adding in a flutter stack (.012, .018, .010, then .015's after)

*Secondary shock hoops are now welded in (older photo below), with the plans for 6" 2.5 bypass shocks. These have a lead time of 9-10 months from king so I need to revalve the coilovers to at least get through the rest of the rear, then ill revalve/retune once I get the bypasses in

You've got adjusters which is a nice feature for multi terrain and allows some leniency with your valving.

I have found flutters to be effective on these trucks as they hate chop, but not everyone agrees.

What diameter shims are you planning on using for the flutter? I support the use of the .015s following the flutter for the heavy hits.

Heres where im at so far

    Current compression valving:
    08 x 175
    08 x 160
    10 x 100
    15 x 145
    15 x 130
    15 x 115
    15 x 100

    Projected compression valving:
12 x 175 (looks like this is the only one that should change for a flutter stack?)
    08 x 160
    10 x 100
    15 x 145
    15 x 130
    15 x 115
    15 x 100

    Current Rebound valving:
    15 x 175
    15 x 160
    15 x 145
    15 x 145
    12 x 130
    12 x 115
    12 x 100

    Projected rebound valving:
TBD, was told the rebound should be faster and moving shims down to .08 and .010 to get the tires back on the ground quicker through whoop sections

Sorry if you've already seen this but I share it with everyone I see running that style spindle gusset since if it fails, it fails hard.

haha yeah...i read through that article a while back, thank you for sharing again! Its good to put that info out there.

I put these gussets on about 2.5 years ago and havent had an issue. But I plan on installing the JD fabrication double shear steering kit which Ill then box in that lower area of the spindle and reinforce those weak points stated in the forum. I check for cracks every few months or so on the truck on the spindles and havent seen any issues thus far.

So I'm imagining it's pretty soft right now with the current stack or what are your complaints??

Sure, that's apart of the idea but it's a balance of getting the tire to the ground quickly and not having the front end rise when you hit a section or "bounce" when crawling. Let's all be honest. You're not going to be hitting a whoop section in a 6500 lb truck. Not a big one at least. that's 6100 spec truck weight.

I'd leave the rebound alone and see how you like the compression change.

Haha I actually do hit whoop sections (not deep ones but there are some good size ones I go through at Silver) and jump the truck quite a bit with the weight im at. The frame is boxed, all the suspension and critical frame areas are reinforced and gusseted so im not really worried about hurting the truck. But now that my weight is set on the truck the suspension is all over the place since the valving of the shocks was designed for a truck much much lighter than mine.

But yes, the valving is too soft.

you’ll need to make a few more changes to the compression for that use/weight. I’d still leave rebound alone.

Working on a set of DIY secondary bypass mounts, with the top hat of the mount doubling as an engine cross-brace mount too. Had to build custom ones in order to work around the bumpstop (will take some unique packaging to fit onto the LCA too).
The engine cross-brace should also be fun with all the tight toyota packaging to work around... slowly but surely shes coming together.

Anyone got a set of King 6" bypass shocks they wanna part with? ;)

Is it normal for the uniballs in the UCAs to have some play when turning or rocking the wheels? I traced this clunking sound to these movements in the uniballs.

    Total Chaos UCAs for reference.
