show us your gps

i guess im in the right thread..? but anyway, lets see your gps setup. placement, what it is, anything. i want ideas for a semi-perminant mount. something that can be taken out, but wont be very often.

This is what I did with mine and it works really well for me.

 

is that a custom made thing or can you buy that? or a mix of both haha

 

I took apart a cigarette lighter mount that I got through The GPS Store, I hard wired a power cable directly to the fuse panel with an add a fuse and ran an external antanea. It worked really well, I have since changed the way the wires are wrapped.

jeremiekc, what did you paint your dash with, rattle can? I like it and may have to steal the idea.

 

I haven't painted my dash. It came stock with the black dash and a black head unit. I did cover it with a custom fit DashMat cover.

i stuck the pad that came with my gps in the dash and put the suction cup onto that. i'll load pics in a couple hours.

 

I can take pics later, but I used the disc it came with and not sure if your 06 has this, but I have a little storage cubby hole kind of below the ignition. I but the disc there and then just stuck my suction cup on that. And the GPS is partly infront of the fan speed switch. Perfect for me cause I normally rest my hand on the shifter, and I can just stick my finger out and change anything I want pretty easily.

Mine looks like a garmin zumo 550......for my cycle or car/truck..........my droid google navigation is amazing also

Like the GPS mount. I need something like that. Looking at the website though the mounts they suggest mount to the left of the steering wheel or down by the shifter. Is that a mod you did or am I missing something? I have a garmin older model 255w and would upgrade it if I needed to have it there. Currently its mounted with the suction cup and plate to the plastic piece where your airbag key control is. That plastic plate pops off from time to time though with the added weight. Its for a 2011.

I got these to mount my Garmin on the AC vents, works great cost for both parts was about $7
