I guess people on this site fail to understand anything. No one said these are sliders. They are a step that look like a slider. I like the look of these that look like the sliders I liked but had zero interest in paying $1200 for sliders that would never be used. My truck will never be off road. I wanted them for protection of tires kicking up gravel and dirt on my paint chipping it. I enjoy detailing and keep my paint perfect. So like said over and over. They are a step that look like sliders to protect the paint from everyday driving and a step. They will actually be used for the purpose I bought them everytime I drive my truck. Unlike the last majority who buy actual sliders to seem like they are hard-core but probably never go off roading

I was in the same boat as you. When I got my 2017 TRD OR, I noticed I was getting chips and pit marks from rocks flying up and hitting the truck, even with mud guards. I also wanted something that might prevent some of the door dings from these crappy little cars that kept parking next to me. I'm not dropping my truck off of rock ledges or anything, so I have no need for bolt-to-frame sliders. It would be overkill and a waste of money for me. I got a set of the Avid slider/steps and I've been very happy with them. They are just fine for the trails I'm on to get to fishing spots and such. I put them on my 2020 Sport and I don't have any rock chips or door dings so far and I have nice place to stand when washing/waxing the top of the truck.

TW gets very upset when you don't do things the "right way." I already bought the Sport instead of the Off Road, so I might as well go check prices on bed stiffeners and cold air intakes. :crapstorm::rofl::rofl:

    A few.
Only thing I dont care for with mine or any type of running board in general on a tacoma is you either have to drag ur lower leg againest them or have to enter and exit like its a full size truck by actually stepping on the board. Problem is they sit high and after u step up on them u have to bend over quite a bit because of the low cab height.

They do work well for protecting the paint.

Pretty sure it's in the thread title.

I don't care what you put on your truck or why, just observations in general the move away from pieces built for a purpose vs pieces made to look like something they are not.. It's the same issue with demon "recovery" brackets, "sema" wheels, "pro" grilles, "prinsu type" racks..
Lowest price wins the race to the bottom I guess.

Ive seen a couple of sets in person. They look great. As long as you know they arent going to do ANYTHING for protection aside from the odd road debris bounce, then go for it. Make sure if you sell the truck to someone you point out they arent real sliders. Wouldnt want the ill-informed getting caught in a very expensive situation.

OMG people act like these are some critical items that if it is not divulged as to what they are the world will explode. I think a normal person can look and see ohhh those are steps and not real sliders. If they cannot you can bet that 99.9% the truck will never be off roaded as well.

I will never understand why people just have to inject "you're doing it wrong" when the context is perfectly clear that it has been widely acknowledged these are not real protection and are not intended to be used as such.
    Why is this so controversial.

I will bet 90% of these assholes who are making a big deal about it also are running a wheel and tire setup that sticks out past the fender wheel and looks god awful like a damn rollarskate. Its also those dicks who mess up others rides as well because they dont have tire coverage but hey they are EXTREME

They have to because this site is EXTREME.
I remember WAY WAY back in the day like the early 2000's when I had my first gen and I was on TTORA. Those guys there were the biggest pricks on the planet and it seems this site is coming up the rear following suite

This is so true, but unfortunately the norm these days in the digital world not just TW. OP these are pretty neat for what they are, probably gonna nab a set here soon thanks for sharing. Please share if you see any early wear and tear otherwise these look like a good alternative for those that don't feel the urge to smash their new 40k+ truck on rocks right away.

Even if they are. These are just add on like anything and if they don't know what they are its their problem. It's not like if you don't tell them it's like hiding accident reports on the truck. Still not sure on the mindset on this site. It's Tacomaworld. Not Hardcore only offroading forum

I appreciate the write up and the details you provided @16TacomaSport. Thanks. I am planning on getting some of these as well. I also don't understand some members that want to interject comments within this sub thread if they arent interested in it. If the sub thread doesnt pertain to you.. or you arent interested.. move on. Oh well. Just wanted you to know i appreciate your comments and pics.

Except they seem to function just fine as steps....just as they're intended to. I think you missed the mark, bud.

Meh I think they are just irritating you more than you should be willing to let them. I just mentioned if you sell the truck because there are plenty of things I wish people would have mentioned to be before I bought a car. But hey, to each their own.

To those who have these or the armordillo version mentioned

How are you liking them? How are they holding up so far? Do they work okay as a step?

If they ever come back in stock I am considering these or something similar as a step to help the little kids climb into the cab

For a short girlfriend, you may be better off with something like the Predator Steps. As some have said, slider-style running boards may not make the best steps, depending on whether or not you have any lift.
