We all realize that the Tacoma has been produced in Mexico since the 2004 model and the majority are shipped into the USA dealers. They just added a second manufacturing facility in Mexico this year. They have planned for years to move all production of the Tacoma to Mexico. The Tundras have been built there for ages. I don’t understand the difference. The Japanese will be working in the Mexico facilities insuring quality remains as expected. It’s not an American made truck no matter where it’s built. It’s a Japanese company using Japanese components and parts that they ship from Japan. There’s no American jobs lost in this decision. The Americans will be building the Sequoia.

My mistake, yes the Tundras are from Texas. I only know what is published by news companies and my Tacoma’s Country of Orgin invoice states Mexico as it’s finally assembly. I special ordered it last April and picked it up in August in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I still feel that the quality will continue to be the same wherever it’s produced. The Tacoma has a world wide reputation for reliability and build quality. So wherever the Mexico models have been sent since 2004 they must be built with quality in mind.

 

All 2020 Tacos (as far as I know) were manu'd in Baja. Up until then (again as far as I know) all US/Canadian market Tacos were made in Texas.
Maybe read the articles that you are relying on your info for, not just taking random sentences and making whole new stories out of them.

 

Maybe some were from Baja. But the best part of placing an order is you receive you the country of origin paperwork that goes with the truck. Mine was Mexico. But, does it matter? People can always buy a Ford if the country it’s produced in matters.

I have 2 trucks, 2016 SR 4 cylinder for work purposes it has 120k miles and it has not gone to the dealer once since I have owned it (except for maint) 1 brake job at 80k with rotors.

2021 recently purchased and knock on wood no issues and I don’t anticipate issues. These trucks are built to last. If you nitpick on small shit of course you can find problems on all vehicles.

 

We can't afford anything built in the USA due to unions, EPA, workman comp, hazard insurance, OSHA, health insurance, liabibility insurance, FICO, building codes, zoining, property values, taxes, property taxes, transportation, greedy shareholders wanting more profit on thier investments, crooked politions, the list goes on & on.


Oh shit I forgot the lawyers.

 

2017 TRD Off Road with 24,500 miles on it.. getting the fuel pump replaced under warranty as part of the recall today..

 

I've got 12,000 miles on my 2020 TRD OR and for some reason can't seem to find the fuel leak. Been there since new. I fill the tank, and sure as shit, every 250-300ish miles, It says the damn things is empty again. I havn't had the time to figure out where the leak is so I just keep putting gas in.

 

The weak windshield made of fine China is my only compliant so far. Chips on the smallest pebble

 

You should see the size of the one in my 4cyl... I know it is big but it seems to only leak while driving

 

Regarding issue #2 the radio and navigation shutting down randomly was there a cause/reason identified and a fix for the random shutdowns? I have a 2017 4x4 Sport DoubleCab with the JBL stereo and navigation and today with 24,500 miles it started shutting itself down randomly but also it would shut down after selecting a destination and hitting the go key/prompt. Any recommendations of fixes would be appreciated. Not sure if I will trust it for a long trip. Thanx in advance

 

I don’t want to be negative or anything, but could you please give us an update AFTER the part is replaced? I would hope the celebration about the problem being found is not premature.

 

Point your finger at those finance/economics guys and leave the accountants out of this Also, there are a lot of plastics that are more durable than metals and they tend not to expand with heat (heck, I think most intake manifolds these days are plastic). Plastic does not automatically equate to bad. Other than that I’m sorry about the issues you’ve had, that really sucks.

 

My bed is slightly tilted lower on passenger side near bumper.

 

You are correct thier are plastics that do not expand with heat......that's exactly the problem they DON'T the rest of the entire engine DOES exoand due to being all aluminum casting the bigger the item in question the more it expands now add angles like the top of a block (deck) slap on a couple cylinder heads with an angle for the intake & all of it moving in different directions bolt on some hard non moving plastic part.......witch part loses the expansion & contraction war?

The ridged plastic one every time........i give you that stupid plastic water crossover tube on the back of every 3.5 Tacoma on the planet for starters.

Now add in the huge (in comparison) platic glued together intake manifold granted it does not see the temps the water crossover does hence no massive number of failures (yet) including mine.

Mine did not fail it was a manufacturing failure in assembly..........the damn thing was not glued together (No glue in 1 spot 4mm long) properly allowing a small air leak not noticeable to the MAF sensor anytime except idle it was that small.

For all you guys out thier wanting to check yours for leakage grab a can of starting fluid & spray a LIGHT burst while the engine is running around your glued together intake seams & where it bolts to the heads if the idle SIGNIFICANTLY & repeatedly increases in the same spot where you squirt the starting fluid you found a leak its sucking air in that spot.

One word of warning if the starting fluid ignites & burns off your eyelashes you have a secondary voltage leak meaning a bad coil on Spark plug voltage leak issue. So beware all you do it yourselfers.

Yes I'll give a full report Monday after my engine is wearing a new intake manifold as to it being fixed or not.........I have no doubt it will be & the old one probably will be installed on some engine in a Toyota training center just to piss off some unsuspecting student by misdiagnosing an idle problem by throwing parts at the motor before finding (if ever) the problem

One more thing anybody that owns a tundra has shit for brains. (my dealer issued loaner) That truck & subsequent others have single handedly caused global warming due to its insatiable thirst for fuel.
