I've never seen 87 AKI around here.

If you have 87, you have 87 AKI.
It's labeled on the pump as 87 (R+M)/2 method.

I don't know when or where that is...
I ripped it from another post just to show (R+M)/2=AKI.

I use 91 E0 and haven't filled up in months. I imagine it's up around $4/gal...if that makes you feel any better. 87 E10 is about $2.50/gal.

Unfortunately the link does not take me to the article but controlling the process and quality at the point of deposit (station) sounds more like a lip service statement than that of fact to me.

I'm not sure if you can see it happen. I've never really paid attention but I assume the system is all underground like the tanks.

Maybe, but I'll take their word for it. Especially on something as regulated as gas and from such a well respected company.

Costco made the claim that most of their stations have added tanks and piping for the additives.

Hey neighbor, where do you get your 91 E0? That Phillips station at 49 and Walton?

The Casey's close by has completely run out of fuel a couple of times over the last couple of weeks, and now their 91 is over $3. I usually fill up at Sam's, but prices are up. On a weekend trip a couple of weeks ago, the Phillips in Huntsville only had 91 available, but the fuel delivery truck pulled in while I was filling. I always use 91 anyway. I don't drive a lot of miles, so I don't mind getting the good stuff.

This is common at airports. Some gas station add their own additives as well, but usually this is done before the fuel is loaded onto the truck. Dunno if it’s just more additives or if they are all added there. Probably the former.

AFAIK, the U.S. and Canada are the only ones who use AKI. :notsure:

I just got my truck and my neighbor, also with a new taco, told me the manual says to run mid-grade (which is 88) here. Dealership I got the truck from says regular (85 here) is fine. Then I read the manual and it indeed confirms 87+ lest “knocking or other problems” may occur. I just filled up now opting to be safe rather than sorry with my new beauty with the 88 mid-grade which is just a bit more $.

Does altitude have anything to do with it? I live at 4,500 feet. Any idea why dealership would tell me something that is contradicting in the manual?

85 at altitude is a throwback to carb engines that could tolerate it better.

I'll jump on the 87 bandwagon too. Unless you have modified the engine or something, use 87 octane and it will be fine, I don't think there is much benefit using a higher octane in the stock engines.
