I had a raccoon charge at me in a field while deer hunting one day. As I pulled up to take a shot at him, he turned and ran away. It is odd for them to be out during the day. Even stranger if they want to play chicken with you.

Yeah. I saw that. I worry about my 12 year old grandson. He walks through the woods near our house by himself. He wants to be independent and I can understand the desire. I remember walking through the woods near my house when I was his age and even younger. Heck, I would go a mile or more out from my house. Our property (we rented) abutted Duff Park, in Murrysville. I knew every trail in that park like the back of my hand and I remember feeling like a big shot when our entire 6th grade took a a field trip there and the teacher had me lead the entire grade into the woods. I could have walked those trails with my eyes closed. Anyway, I am not going to treat my grandson like a baby. So, I tell him, be alert when you are out in the woods, looking for things like a rabid raccoon. When he goes off, if he isn't back in about 15 minutes I just take my own walk down the path to the creek where he likes to go and discreetly check on him. You have to let them grow up or they never will.

It seems Rabies might not have been so common back in my youth early sixties then with no internet it might have just not been heard about 2 counties away.

Then the intact skull is needed for testing with the most common weapon a shovel or hoe the head was not in any shape for testing.

Me I only seemed to have a problem getting sprayed by skunks I lived in the woods

I pretty much just cut them off with a 4" grinder and cutting disc.

This is when the are so far rusted even a rounded fastner socket will no longer fit.

Kind of like ticks and Lyme's Disease. We were all through the woods as a child and never saw a tick. Now? my wife checks me and the dog after walks. The dog has one on her just about every week. Me? I had one in my shoulder a few years ago and one burrowing into my ribs, going toward my back, a few weeks ago. I think it may have been there for a few days, as I can't always get my wife to check me if I walk when she is at work and this one was just in my blind spot. I have to wait another for weeks before I get tested.

Some woman in a late model Land Rover got arrested for DUI after driving the wrong way down East Oakland Avenue in Doylestown tonight...

What is significant from this aside from the fact she was drunk...? This is the same stretch of road where I got hit by a drunk driver back in 2015!

I was doing DoorDash and there were two police SUVs blocking Oakland at the intersection of Main Street; I drove the long way around, parked the Tacoma on a side street, and walked back up to see what was going on. When I arrived, there were two cops and a middle-aged woman in handcuffs. This woman had gone “Karen” and was crying. The two cops were saying “Ma’m, you are under arrest for driving under the influence.”

I happened to walk right by the scene before heading back to my truck; One of the cops was inventorying the drunk woman’s Land Rover. I told this officer “Thanks for what you do, man; I got hit by a drunk driver on this same stretch of road.”

He said “Thanks for that” and remarked how drunk drivers were becoming more prevalent due to warmer weather and the lifting of COVID restrictions.

I then said “if she can afford a Land Rover, you’d think she’d be able to afford an Uber” and got a chuckle out of the cop.

Just another Friday night in Doylestown!

Also, I once accidentally drove the wrong way down Oakland Avenue while totally sober...

    Didn’t get pulled over though!
