I haveca 2021 off road that did not come with the bed lights near the rear. I happened to take the tail light out and noticed a harness with 2 wires and nothing hooked to them. I am wanting to add lights, are these wires that I can hook them to?

    Mostly dust and dirt.
What trim doesn’t come with bed lights?

Yes, and I even have a stockpile of connectors for T harnesses.

But the OEM lights are super easy to add.

I would be interested in 2 of those harnesses.

The BST thread for them is here though it hasn't seen much interest. You can also just DM me an address and I'll let you know how to pay.

Also, OEM install instructions here. If I had a 2020, I'd for sure get the OEM bed lights b/c the install is so easy. I can see wanting more, though.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
You'll need a switch for the dash.

They should fire off the cargo switch if OP is DC. That can be tested with a spare bulb or multi-meter.

Yes. I have a 20 SX and it’s sort of a half step above an SR.
    I have bed lights.

SX has some cool stuff. I was tempted by it. Good price, good value, good truck.

These are super easy to add after the fact, probably just a nice way for Toyota to throw some $ to the dealers for labor.

bed lights are port/regional distributor installed if you see them in the original window sticker. Dealerships can later add them too but you'll see them as appending to the original sticker separately.
Toyota doesn't put them on in their manufactory plants
My truck's fully loaded with all factory packages and just 1 port/distributor package (carpet floor mat that I threw away) so I don't have bed lights.
I think they are super easy to install though, OEM parts plug and play.

The OP did not specify whether he had a Double Cab or an Access Cab. All Double Cabs come with the switch already installed but the Access Cabs do not. If needed, the switch is easy to add, but it costs as much as the bed lighting kit itself.

No switch is needed, depending on how/when you want them to be ON.

I have a 2021 double cab sport and I added the kit from my dealer. Came with Everything needed for me was in the kit for ~$80 CAD.
It plugs into that extra plug behind the drivers tail light. It’s super easy to install. Took me about 30 min.
The lights work off your cargo light switch after that and can be set up whichever way you have that switch to come on or off.
The OEM power tailgate pop lock handle is prewired in our year of trucks too. I was thrilled to find out Toyota had enough forethought to prewired these options for us.

They're definitely not supposed to. There's a separate cargo light switch on the dash. The dome lights (front and rear) are controlled, primarily, by the switch on the overhead console. (The rear one is controlled, secondarily, by its own switch.)

ETA: What might be confusing is that the cargo light switch has a little icon on it that makes it seem like it's for an overhead light. But remember that on the double cab, a cargo light is included in the 3rd brake light housing (overhead). This has nothing to do with the interior dome lights.

The cargo switch has one of the most funky icons I’ve seen. Looks more like a semi w flatbed than a pickup.
