Mine keeps most the dust and water out. I've slept in my bed while severe thunderstorms were going though the area and both my son and I stayed dry.

I dunno how dust is getting in - I rode through about 2 hours of sand storm in the deserts of California last week and had no issues with my topper. We slept in it the next night, too, without getting gritty. So far it's been solid.

I made a little extension for mine out of the same material (Softopper will sell you material at cost if you just ask.. They're a solid company.) Sleeps just fine for two people, and I'm not even that small. I'm a bit over 6' and 215lbs and my gf and I slept in the bed just fine under the topper. The tan keeps you a bit cooler, too.

That looks good! How much did the extra material cost you from softopper?

$25/yd. Typical fabric sizing, 36"x60" for that price, and I bought 3 yards and used most of it. So the whole extension cost me $75 in fabric and maybe $20 in straps and velcro.Letsdoit.jpg

I think if you install it per the directions you'll be in good shape. I had no issues with dust or water getting in personally, and plan on sleeping in the back of the taco regularly this summer. The only time I've noticed water in the bed is when I'm washing the thing and blasting it at weird angles with a hose - zero issues from rainstorms so far.

Not even a year yet, but I just did a long road trip with it on during which we went through a snowstorm, several rainstorms, a dust storm, and some freezing rain. Nothing got in, and we were keeping most of our gear in the bed. And seeing as how they're based in Boulder (I'm just outside Denver as well) where the sun and temp swings are pretty brutal with no ill effects, I'm pretty confident it'll stay that way for many, many years.

Edit: And check their facebook - lots of pics of people with their toppers that are 8-10 years old looking great.

If you got more pics, I'd love to see them. I've been toying with this idea and I really like how yours turned out. Well done

I don't have a soft topper but in my experience with my tonneau most of the dust seems to come in through the tailgate so if you seal that with foam/rockbloc it may help. Soft Toppers are super popular out here in Colorado, a few of my friends have them and are very pleased. I kinda want one!

Like the concept, but not the execution. Seems like a great way to scratch the crap out of your paint, and wish there were color options as you mention.

This was the plan I used for this first iteration. Honestly, knowing what I know now, I would go back and do it differently. The current version has a bed extender on the interior to give me that 16" of vertical, which makes it pretty roomy. The downside of the bed extender is that it makes it annoyingly more difficult to get in/out. I'm probably going to get some more material from Softopper and do a simpler setup that just goes straight from the velcro on the back of the topper straight down to the end of the tail and excludes the bed extender entirely. Maybe throw a zipper up the middle for easy in and out.

Softtopper is the best, I sleep in the back of it during camping trips. Then I fold it up and store it away til next camping trip. It's rained a couple times and I've been fine

That's waking up in the softtopper in the bed of my truck to the ocean.

I added some magnets to the Velcro adhesive strips. Fits snug, no more flapping on the freeway.

So I installed my softopper tonight. It went well my only concern is are these mounts supposed to be bent/twisted like this?
