RSI Smart Cap

Alright. This is getting dumb. I got the warranty replacement brake light harness with the 3 wire set up for my led lights. Now the lower half of my driver side brake light doesn’t light up. Do I need to switch wires? TIA!

update: spent 3 hrs last night dicking around with the two harnesses and switching pins. Trying all the permutations. Nothing got the DRL light to light up. Turns out the bulb filament was broken for the DRL but intact for the braking.

Glad you found what was happening.
I never even asked them for the brake light harness. It was easy enough to splice into the taillight.

 

UPDATE:
We got a huge rainstorm in Denver and I was there visiting and also testing the cap to see for leaks.

At first there was no leaking and everything seemed good. Then the rain kept coming and coming.
Eventually where the rear panels meet the roof, all along the seams, water was leaking through. So it’s no longer leaking through the roof but in through the sides where I siliconed.

I plan to silicone the entire fuckin cap wherever the panels lined up. Then I will continue testing to see if it is water tight.
Man these caps really take a lot to seal up. I believe that’s the only place it was leaking though and some silicone on the outside should fix it. And a little more around my 3rd brake light as well.

 

First time wheeling since I put the cap on, no issues, this thing is sturdy, still in its original position from the day I put it on.

Didnt want to spend 500+ on a cap rack and the RSI bars have been backordered for awhile so decided to order parts onlince to build my own.
Pretty stoked on how it came out. Currently only running 2 cap bars but will more than likely pick up another 2.

 

Genius. I spent money on feet and side supports. That would have worked just fine.

 

Parked outside last night and it was foggy and misty. Opened the rear door of the canopy and its leaking water from where the rear section meets the top section/side section.

The only other leaks I saw before were from the front corners but thats from the bed not the canopy.

Maybe i'll try to tighten the bolts in that area a little more and make sure they're all even.

Was hoping I didn't have to go through this.

 

I almost do the feet/side supports custom made. But saw these parts and thought to try them oit before spenting more money

 

I really like the modular design but it sounds like there are still a lot of bugs in the RSI Smart Cap. Hopefully they get it dialed in over the next year and I'll take the plunge.

 

Just caught up on the 56 pages of this thread. New to the Camper/Topper/Shell/Canopy world. Couple quick questions.

Was looking into Fiberglass and in discussion with the shop, he mentioned potential for the topper to "twist" while off road and potentially break the rear glass? Is that actually a thing? Along those lines, is that a possibility with the Evo Sport models or does the modular and stainless build provide enough rigidity to be less of a concern? I don't do anything crazy, but off camber and bumps are very likely!

Also, with everything being on backorder, is there anyone in the N. NV area that is willing to let me check theirs out?? Will be in Sacramento/Folsom area Friday also if someone nearby has a flexible schedule?? I'll bring the beverages!

not a tacoma, a much older vehicle, but shows how a bed can flex when off roading. im betting the tacoma beds dont flex as much, this is more an exaggerated example.

Has anyone repainted their SmartCap? I'm not sure whether they're powder coated or painted at the factory, just wondering if anyone has painted one themselves or seen one that's not black or white?

Curious to see what a paint matched SC looks like.

 

I know, I know, it's a Jeep... But our customer repainted his cap grey to match the grey on his Gladiator. The caps are painted so you could definitely have them re-painted.

 

I just spent more than half of my day siliconing every seam on the outside of the cap.
Also, I noticed a small hole in the rail closest to my bed cab, underneath it towards the driver's side. It was leaking quite a lot, so I added some waterproof tape over it.
Next, I removed the white tabs that are around the inside of the windows when you open them, they looked to me like it was leaking so I decided to pull the 3 on the top out and the two on the sides and cleaned them, siliconed around them and then re-inserted them.

If my caps leaks after what I did to it over my weekend, IDK wtf I missed. But I will located the leak and try and fix it. Hoping I have actually sealed this cap now.

Honestly the Gladiator would look siiiick as a regular cab. Sure it's still a Chrysler, but it'd look cool which must be the only thing Jeep/Ram owners give a cuss about.
