Got new wheels and tires last week, and was looking at them more closely. I noticed that one wheel has zero weights on it. What are the odds that it didn’t need weight, vs that they forgot to balance one?

Probably 1 in every 100 tires I do require no weight. Enjoy it.

Any vibrations from the wheels at highway speeds?

If not, then you're good to go.
If yes, then back to the tire shop.

    Simple.

Can’t really say there is any noticeable vibration. Would it be quite apparent?

    Yes, it would be apparent.

    You're probably good to go.

If you remain doubtful, you could go back to the tire shop. Ask them to check the balance on that tire.

I've balanced quite a few wheels were it doesn't need any weight, I always give it a second spin on the balancer to double check but if its good after two times I assume its good.

I’d enjoy it. Doesn’t happen often.

I use Centramatics on my truck and trailers. Those are game changers in the balancing department.

Rare, but it happens. More rare on a truck than a car. Give the shop a call and ask if the tire guy remembers your truck. Its rare enough that I would remember if it was me.

Call them to ensure proper fitment.

I got my license in 1980. I actually drove cars since 1976. I have replaced tires on every conceivable residential motor vehicle, but mainly cars, trucks and trailers and tractors. I’d have to estimate fifty to seventy sets of tires, not including family and friends.

I have had at least a dozen individual tires that failed balancing at all and were warrantied. I have had a equal number of rebalance events from poor “first attempts”. With the advent of road force balancing I have actually encountered more quality issues.

I would imagine it is conceivable a tire/wheel combination actually have a two wrongs makes a right, I simply feel it is equally as likely the person or machine used or the weights themselves warrant double checking.

Update for anyone interested. Took it back to the shop, and they ended up putting half an ounce of weight on the wheel. Not much at all, but I’m glad I went in.
