Honda could still build gas powered 2039 Accords well into the 40's.

Rivian is claiming 20 minutes for an 80% charge for vehicles starting delivery around June. If a 300 mi vehicle proves to get 80% in 20 minutes, charging will, over time become a non-problem. In the early part of the 20th century all sorts of people who could work on the early cars installed fuel stations. I can see entrepreneurs in out of the way places doing the same thing. Over the course of time, they, like the gas stations will be absorbed into the big networks/conglomerates.

    Don’t worry, be appy.
They will be located on maps. The same factors govern gas mileage. Braking recharges the battery. By the time I need a new vehicle I will already be late to the show and finding a gas station will probably be more difficult. Your fears are not unfounded now but they soon will be.

It's certainly fair to say, "I'll believe it when I see it." And yes, a gauge can be wrong. I'm personally anxious to see if the Rivian lives up to it's claims re: mileage, power, quick charge, etc.

§ 85.2302 Definition of model year.
Model year means the manufacturer's annual production period (as determined under § 85.2304) which includes January 1 of such calendar year, provided, that if the manufacturer has no annual production period, the term “model year” shall mean the calendar year.

Obviously Honda could manufacture gas engines for the next 100 years. The point is that they will not be sold in their North American market which suggests either: A, Honda is abandoning the North American market or B, they will be selling electric vehicles exclusively (or maybe their hydrogen vehicles?).

With all the catalytic converter thiefs recently and the Prius being in the crosshairs, a midget could walk under that Prius to steal the converter.

I realize there are far more gas stations than charging stations but running out of gas is something that factors in all you listed as well. My Prius prime has built in navigation that shows all the charging stations available as does google, Apple Maps... Tesla’s website has a whole trip planner that lets you know exactly where to stop and charge. Range anxiety is understandable but with some pre planning there is no reason for concern. For what’s it worth we get further range than advertised on EV only with our prime. I am not saying I am ready to take on the Mojave Road in a EV but we are getting there quickly!

There are plenty of charging points for Tesla's and other EV's from Northern california to las Vegas. You don't need to do it in one charge.

I wrote about the trip to Pittsburgh and Tesla charging stations were mapped out and along his route. So he didn't "take a chance" he researched it and he made it there with no issues. You can't drive that milage in a petrol car without stopping for petrol along that route either, over 600 miles. Plenty of people take long trips in Ev's and all you do is plan the route ahead and route with EV charging stations along the way. Not a difficult task.

I agree, and disagree. As an example, last year I had to go to our family vacation home in the Gulf Shores area by hurricane Sally. It’s 762 miles from where live. How many stops or an extra day would it take to get down there? Once the hurricane hit, the house didn’t have power for 8 days. How am I charging an electric vehicle? Can’t exactly run out of the area for supplies when your vehicle doesn’t have a charging station.

edit: I currently make the drive in 1 day.

Debate as you will about why it’s happening, but bad weather/tornados/hurricanes are becoming more common and more disruptive.

You can easily drive to LV from northern Cali with EV.

Making self sufficient homes more attractive. Panels w/power wall. Gas stations need power too. The need for range will drive up capacity and 1/2 hr rest stops will create business opportunities as well as getting drivers off the road for necessary rests. Things will change, they always do. Maybe trains will get the up dating to bring them into this century and we use them to ferry us instead. Hard to predict what will be but it’s pretty certain it won’t be what we’ve become accustomed to.

So you'll have to re-gear by just going to 17's? :D

Each model is geared for a certain optimum use but one size doesn’t really fit all. “Just” going to 17” wheels is a change that affects the final drive ratio. Autos have different axle ratios than manuals. 5-lugs are different than 6-lugs. Even if you made no wheel changes at all your circumstances might make a different rear axle ratio preferable. 1st and reverse are already geared so high I wouldn’t want to make it any worse but for some it’s a non issue.

Electric cars are almost always automatic, meaning they don't have a clutch for changing gears, or even a gearbox. Instead, a typical electric car is a single-speed vehicle with two pedals – one for accelerating, the other for braking.:D

Sorry, I was referring to our trucks not the hypothetical e-taco. I don’t think gearing or axle ratios will be the same conversation they are now. Likely there will be two motors anyway and no drive shaft or differentials.

Electric is great for the people that need/want it. But to shove it down everyone's throat. Demand NO more ice engines. Crazy talk. What will happen to highly valuable gas cars? All museum pieces? I want to be able to drive old cars too.

Not selling ICE cars doesn't mean the cops are going to come and re-possess your existing ICE cars anymore than when fuel economy standards get raised for NEW vehicles , it won't be illegal to drive the car you own if it doesn't meet the standard

    its a transition to EV

Some manufacturers plan to completely eliminate ice cars from their lineup. The future is coming and they want it fast.
