It's a good thing we have this thread on Tacoma World full of brilliant minds to tell all the EV engineers and planners all over the world how they're wrong and are missing these huge blindspots in EV development.

RIVIAN is listening. Out of the gate their EV is very capable on and off road.

No joke, I am excited that they are actually taking notes from the off road community. Even the Cybertruck had "overland" elements in their promos.

RIVIAN has way more 3rd party accessories for their truck than the Cybertruck.

This is the kind of horse before the cart EV engineering that makes no sense. Build a truck that works first.

I don't see it as "shoving it down peoples throats" when capitalism is the driving force behind the change. As the demand for EV cars starts edging out the demand for ICE car manufacturers will shift to making what the costumer wants. I am sure you will be able to drive almost any ICE car you want until you're too old to drive so I wouldn't worry about that but petrol will eventually be crazy expensive.

The uninformed thought process is when the, for example in some states, 2030 ICE stop sell mandate kicks in they won't be able to keep their current ICE vehicle, or get it fixed, or travel to a non mandate state to buy their ICE vehicle or rebuild their current ICE engine and the electric grid will collapse in 2030 because of so many EV's charging.

Yes, one great think about electric motors is their power output is flat after the reach a certain RPM level (see below). So it doesn't need an extensive RPM "ramp up" and gears to keep RPM around an ideal level. Since electric motors also have few moving parts, they can reach ridiculous RPM levels. Tesla's motors can reach 18000 rpm. So they can accelerate to high speeds in ridiculously short times.

That place is changing and looks much different than it did 10 years ago. We’re driving dinosaurs. It would be nice if an affordable version gets produced but despite the obvious benefits and large scale deployment of fleet vehicles I’m not holding my breath. I’ll be surprised if electric trucks are anything but high end toys at least to begin with.

Dinosaur squeezings are going to run dry at some point.. whats the plan then if we haven't developed alternative modes of transport?

I bet using an ICE will be a luxury, same way how we now consider candles luxury items. When lightbulbs first came out, they were also only for the rich, now everybody uses them and candles are considered luxury items. Things change, and once the change starts it is often very fast.

Not too far in the future we will charge our electric Tacomas. It will be cheaper than filling up on gas.
