Are they allowed to add extra fees? Like this? Definitely made up fee that negated half the discount.

Yes I reported them to Toyota, although honestly it doesn't seem like much will come of it. The rep did say he would "associate the complaint with the dealership" so maybe they'll get a black mark of some sort.

Also left a bad google review FWIW.

Went to Wilsonville but they were unable to locate a matching truck. Eventually I just called the highest rated dealership in various regions. One guy from a dealership in VA texted me the allocation list for matching trucks and on #3 found a dealership that'd sell to me.

Edit: the list in question with my truck scratched off is below. These are all TRD Sport V6 MT in voodoo.

Interesting way of going about that. Who gave you that allocation list? A dealership? Surprising that they would give that to you rather than try to get you to buy it from them.

Yeah, I guess it might work better if there was something that you actually wanted or did not get.

Yeah a salesman from a dealership. He was a cool dude.

Regarding the want; They asked what they could do and my only ask was please sell me the truck, to which they rightly said unfortunately only dealerships handle sales, and wished me luck in the search.

You have to go through costco's website and find a "certified" costco dealer. If you don't like the dealer they suggested, I believe you can call costco customer service and request a different one. But calling the dealers directly is not going to give you results, they are under no obligation at that point and can spin whatever bs they want.

Yes, technically they can. You can walk away from bs like that. The costco/dealer agreement means they have to agree upon a reasonable msrp (for the specs) for the vehicle provided. If my dealer tried to add on inflated fee's like that I would tell them to remove it or I walk away. The admin fee crap is easy profit for the dealer... at the msrp of $36,479 they are still making a profit (the costco agreement), they are just trying to squeeze out a few more dollars out of you with the admin fee's. You could probably call costco corprate and argue this point and they would reprimand the dealer.

Not sure—my dealer had a $495 doc fee, but supposedly that is set by law in Arizona. What I would say with a degree of certainty is that they cannot charge you that fee unless they charge it to everyone.

The procedure is that you get your dealer referral through Costco — not from calling a dealer and asking if they participate. Dealers try to bamboozle you into thinking they are a Costco participant when they are not. Get the dealer(s) referral from Costco on their website and go from there. You do not call the dealer directly. You will be given a Costco referral number which you take with you to the dealership. It is a procedural process. Sometimes saving money takes a bit of work.

Every single dealership in the Portland area seems completely disreputable based on my limited dealings. Wilsonville seemed like it may be a better place based on limited interactions, but we've not done business (...yet!)

    Let's not talk about it
I bought my 21 DCSB Off Road in late January. It was 1 of 2 I could find within a couple hundred miles with the options I wanted (premium package, advanced tech package). I got it at MSRP of $45,055 and I ended up leasing it for $330 a month with $6000 down. I’ll probably end up buying it out at the end of the lease.

    So Cal
    Vehicle:
2021 TRD Sport DCSB Silver Sky Metallic
After a month's long search, finally got my Tacoma. Dealers in so cal are almost all MSRP or have a $3-5k markup.

Silver sky metallic, DCSB, RWD, TRD Sport pkg, tech pkg, black out pkg, 5" oval tube steps, mudguards

    MSRP $38,031
    Got for $37k + TTL
    $40,600 OTD
Was able to get 2.39% financing with bank of america, dealer couldn't get anywhere near that.

In the end i could've bought the same exact truck in march from same dealer, and saved an extra $500 rebate. But i wanted to see if there were any better deals out there, and contacted 15-20 other dealers only to find out they wouldn't budge on price lol. Attitude of all dealers was buy it now before someone else does haha. Really wanted LED headlights, but the few configs that had them were out of my price range.

I did the 100% online purchase, and they delivered the truck to my business.
