Today I am spending money. And a few days ago as well. Upcoming- Alternator replacement, adding my aal to my OME Dakars, replacing front and rear shocks, upper and lower ball joints. Probably doing CV boots as well. That should keep me busy for a couple days once the parts show up!

Not yet. I am pretty sure I will simply do the OEM boots in standard installation. I don't have too much lift in my truck, should be around 1.5-2" above stock, so thinking that is my best option.

Shouldn't run into any boot angle issues with that kind of lift. Over 2" is where it starts to get questionable

If you were going to go upgraded, here are the boots I'd suggest.

    Inner = https://www.offroadsolutions.com/products/high-angle-inner-cv-boot/
Outer = If you're CVs are pretty flat, I totally get sticking with the OEM though.

that is what I am hoping. Won't know final lift amount until I get all the parts and do the suspension swap. I will be curious to see where it lands.

Give it a little time to settle afterward but you'll know pretty quick if the boots are rubbing at ride height, and if they are they will tear sooner than later. I went through so much headache with boots tearing until I finally gave in and just lowered the lift until they no longer rubbed anywhere. Diff drop was a waste of time, didn't do anything. I never tried the boot slide mod though, or those high angle axles that are out now.

I run the ORS red inners. With the boot slide mod. Have had absolutely no problems with them. In fact, we did a recovery run in some STUPID sticky mud, where the mud was stuck to, and in everything... did this to my CVs.

I untwisted them, and they have still been fine ever since (two years ago)

The All Pro outers have been good as well. The only reason I had to recently re-boot was my son was helping me with the front shocks and got a little aggressive... the lower shock bolt tore one of the outer boots.

I would HIGHLY recommend the ORS red inner boots.

That's good to know, the other ones I know about are the CVJ ones but I've heard those seem to tear easily. Might have to look at the ORS

what lift height did you find to be low enough to not tear boots all the time?

I stopped keeping track of measuring it to be honest, just kept doing it bit by bit until it was clear. If I had to guess, I'm at a little under 2" of lift up front. 3" in the back.

I am hoping the OME setup will settle down to a bit under two up front once it has had a bit of time on it. For the type of off-roading I do, I have plenty of lift, just need decent new suspension and OME was what was available. I expect I will start a bit higher than that and then settle down as the coil gets some use.

I think I currently am sitting 1.5" up front, and that is honestly plenty for me. 2" would be fine as well. We shall see in a few weeks.

Right on! I measured them today and I came up with just shy of 3 inch. (my caliper is probably a bit off, didn't zero it) Just seemed to me that 3 inch wasn't right.

But that's a pretty definitive answer. Thank you

Funny thing is, I was trying to order the RuffStuff Ideal 63 swap... so I was literally on that page, and couldn't find that answer.

Yeah i have been partial to the SDHQ inners but might give these a shot. @Uphillshunter how do those zip ties hold up? And when you say boot slide mod, you mean you ave a cut off inner boot end c clipped in there right?

I've used their perches a couple times now, they have these little tabs on the edge for grinding to fit, takes like 30 secs to get a perfect fit on the axle. Their ideal 63 swap is pretty good. You gonna french the front hanger or embrace the added height?

The zip ties actually held up better than I thought they would. They weren't ideal, but when I originally rebooted those CVs it was all I had to finish and get them remounted. They lasted over 2 years... with being twisted to shit in that mud.

I cut them off when I rebooted a couple weeks ago, and they were still holding strong. But this time I had enough proper CV clamps that I used them instead.

Yes I have a section of old CV boot clipped in there.

Not sure if I'll french them in or not. I probably will. Not necessarily because the height issue, but because I want to make it smoother to not catch rocks etc.

But then again, if that catches a rock, I guess I have other problems (gas tank)... which leads me to the next item on the list... I've been eyeing the LROR gas tank skid. But Skid Row just bought a 1st Gen to dick with... I wish they would make a gas tank for our trucks. They told me it's on their list, but they haven't gotten around to it. I'd rather give them my money.

I was using some nice bolt/worm style clamps that made it easy to take it on and off vs the CV clamps but they are now contacting my coilovers and twisting the boot so I need to fix it.
