Here's the thing, electric cars are coming and costs associated with their upkeep will come down as the manufacturing scale goes up. I'm sure the first Model Ts and other cars were expensive too.

The argument that they cost too much for maintenance and upkeep is a strawman when you look at cost of regular maintenance and also fuel costs (electric cars being cheaper).

One of the other issues with EV where doe the road taxes come from? The roads in this country are is sad shape and not receiving the taxes at the gas pump they will have to find another way. I hear that they will tax you on how many miles you drive.

    Same concern here.

A tax on miles driven actually makes sense. It would actually help out those with Tacomas since we go a lot of miles on a lot of fuel with our current MPG issues in the taco......

And what business were you in I other hand have been involved with Electric for over 40 years. I know what it takes to install these so called charging stations and really don't appreciate the sarcasm. Stick to your Tacoma and don't think that you have it all figured out.

That pointed at me? There was no sarcasm just a little tongue in cheek humor.

As I said I'm not disagreeing with the tax issue.

I'd love for taxes to be based on miles driven. My 04 F250 was a diesel hog and I guarantee I would have paid less in taxes if it had been based on mileage than a gas tax....

My neighbors Model S is 8 years old and had a frayed brake light wire and a main computer reset. He's out $500 total. Not too bad for those items.

I installed the charging unit at my last client build and electrician hooked it up in 15 min . Are you talking about something else ?

Comparing a Tesla to a Corolla is a bit skewed anyway. Might as well compare a Yugo to a Bentley. When Toyota has an ev Corolla then compare it to an ice Corolla. The question is whether anyone will offer entry level ev’s in the various types or will they all be luxury vehicles.

The very first ‘cars’ were electric - almost 200 years ago (before ICE).

GM made the EV1 in the mid 90’s (almost 30 years ago - age check!).

Toyota sold an electric RAV4 in the late 90s up until not long ago (there are some in my neighborhood now).

The future is coming, but I wouldn’t say it’s fast, or that they’re trying to eliminate them immediately. My conspiracy theory brain thinks they want to slow-roll because there’s so much $$ they make on sustainment/‘planned obsolescence’ of ICE engines.

Some cars break. No one ever said they were infallible? Did anyone ever say they don't break? And I want a RIVIAN not a Tesla.

I don’t want a Tesla. I want a Taco with 1000hp/1000tq that can tow a house, that I don’t have to change the oil/fluids on, that’s better than <20mpg @ $4.50 a gallon, and that won’t hunt gears when I try to drive 70mph. And that’s totally achievable within a few years.

If the only big compromise is that I might have to spend a few more min charging on road trips (since I’ll charge/‘fill up’ at home), it’s a no-brainer.

Or this forum for busted tacos, what’s your point. Who cares what makes it go, I just want it to get me there. Dialing back on the road racket is just gravy. We went through the same thing a hundred years ago when the argument was noise vs stepping in horse shit.

Econo boxes both. I’m talking base model etaco. Something working stiffs like me can buy without a firstborn as collateral. Or low priced mini vans and suvs for families other than those buying Range Rovers as grocery getters. I don’t want TRD, Off-road, or fancy wheels and don’t need any decals to glorify the thing.

Yeah this whole argument about cost to fix after an accident is a useless comparison, more so since the examples are often Tesla Model S, which starts at $100k. I bet any $100k car cost a fortune to repair after an accident. You would need to compare it to a Porsche Panamera to have a fair argument, not a Toyota Corolla.
