Where did you mount your fire extinguisher?

We were on a truck run earlier this year when the jeep two rigs in front of me started flaming under the left rear wheel. Within 30 seconds four of us were there with our extinguishers in hand and got the fire out. His caliper took a hit on a trail obstacle and the pads stuck closed. A few miles of heating up in 4LO and "poof". A few years ago we were at an offroad park and a jeep was hitting a really gnarly obstacle that ripped his trans line off, spraying down the cats and headers. Nobody had a fire extinguisher. We all watched a very expensive jeep build burn. That is the event that caused the club to require fire extinguishers in the rigs, and ultimately saved the jeep with the hung brake.

 

Nice! I gotta replace mine and am looking at one made more for vehicles. Had a marine grade one but wondering if a better option would be this one

 

It's not so much the CO2, it's the dry chemical, its an asphyxiation agent. It will coat your lungs and you'll suffocate.
Plus the damn stuff will imbed into carpet like glitter.

Yeah, I realized it once I posted... Still getting used to how the thread lists posts...out of chronological order.

 

A while later... Got her out of the truck before her health was affected, lesson learned though. And yeah, that powder was everywhere inside the cab. Don’t keep a extinguisher unmounted under the seat!

Anyone had the misfortune of using one of these? I picked one up a couple weeks ago and have been looking for a good place to mount. I like where @cameron172 mounted on the floor next to the driver's seat.

I haven’t. Thinking of getting one and working in figuring out mounting to the seat jacker molle panel

 

Keep us in the loop own the seat jackers and this exstinguisher but no panel yet

 

Ordered it last night, should be here in a few days. I’ll try and remember to post here when it shows up.

 

Test fit with zip ties. Seems to go. Will mount it more securely with some 6-32 bolts later.

 

The only problem I see with this Element fire extinguisher; is that there is no adequate standoff distance afforded to someone who is trying to extinguish a fire with it.

 

Very true, the videos do make it appear that fires aren’t hotter than hell and it’s easy to get close to them.

 

This is where mine is too, but I feel its one of the worst places. In a emergency where I would need it, I have to get the kids in the back seat to move real fast while I flip the seat forward to grab it. And if I have my dog seat cover on the back, its even harder to get to since I have to remove half the cover to fold down the rear seat. I really need to find a better place this weekend.
