You, sir, are right! Apparently I'm not so good with the politically correct terminology.

I explain it like this: a ticket is how you justify having an IT tech in your building. If they don't have enough tickets there must not be enough work to keep them busy, and you might have to make do with a roving tech. That sales pitch never worked too well on the users, but oh boy did it work on the bosses.

We bought a new help ticket system and to speed the transition process a consultant was hired. He earned every dime with the following advice, "do not label ticket low, medium, high. Instead label them normal, medium, high." Users that get a ticket labeled low priority tend to get grumpy, but a normal ticket is just fine. So there you go politically correct, and saved you the cost of a consultant.

Quote of the day (so far) from the Redhat Summit:
Cloud implementation can "increase the velocity and magnitude of terrible decisions."

    I need a t-shirt with that.

Sending that to my Linux team's manager...who lost his shit last month when someone thought that putting 300 VMs into MS Azure was "a splendid idea."

To err is human, but to really screw something up takes a computer.
I love when someone says "just put it in the cloud." Like that's some magical place where you never have to worry about your data.

Management who think that cloud is a great solution also cleaned their room by stuffing everything under their bed and called it good.

Or networking, patching, firewalls, load balancers, etc ..

Shit that's how I clean my room.

My wife (also in IT) is always annoyed how I can be good at my job and OCD about configurations but my desk and room are a disaster :D

A team of computer science researchers has uncovered a line of attack that breaks all Spectre defenses, meaning that billions of computers and other devices across the globe are just as vulnerable today as they were when Spectre was first announced.

I need to go buy an actual lottery ticket after hitting the Newegg Shuffle!

Not the 3070 I really wanted, but it'll do. Hold onto the RAM for something else or sell it off.

I wish. Gettin’ 3 different operating systems to talk to each other let alone integrate is a full time Ordeal. I rather council marriage breakups. :frusty:

I am a network engineer so it can *sometimes* be fun to chase down an issue and pass some time. But sometimes it's very not fun.

But it IS Friday so I'll settle for a boring/quiet one :D
