Nothing yet. Stock besides some really nice all-terrain tires.
Wow, Great feedback gents. Definitely very helpful, and I am leaning towards just sticking with my truck and getting her some nice modifications to help with performance. Thanks, guys.

Stick with what you have, the 4x4 units in Tacoma's just plain suck!
    I have had 2 4x4s in Tacomas,my 94 Ford F-350 is a real 4x4.

Good tires and a rear locker will get you most places. But only you know what your intended use is. My first 3 pickups were 2wd and they were great. I admit that there a couple times that l wish l had a 4wd though.
I have a 4wd now, and l use it a lot more now than l would have before.
Honestly think about where you'll be going and what you need to make yourself comfortable going there.
Having a 4wd will give you the option for both.

Probably not helpful. But let us know what you decide.

This, you apparently don't need or want 4 wheel drive?

Electronic Limited Slip works surprisingly well on the 2wds. Got me out of a jamb several times.

Bought a boat (2000lb total) a couple of years ago and 2wd Tacoma struggles to recover it on slippery ramp.
    What should I do?
    1) Replace 2wd Taco with 4wd. I want one but scarce and $$$$
    2) Put a hitch on wife's Rav4 Hybrid. Worth considering.
    3) Sell boat and get a couple Kayaks. Easy way out.

You own a boat. No money left.
Keep the boat, 4x4 is best choice. Might not hardly ever use it, but one slip and you in big trouble.
    Kayaks are good for fishing.

For the OP, 4WD vehicles are great, I've had several. There are a few places you can't go without 4WD, not many. Not talking about intentional off roading. Buy tire chains.

Just get the air locker or a limited slip like mentioned above, a hitch mounted winch that can be removed and call it a day. You can also get one of those front hitches and you can winch from the front or back and you wont really have to dish out for a new truck that you're rarely going to need.

Locker wouldn't be much help and closest tie point for winch is about 150' across a parking lot. Thanks anyway.

From my personal experience of owing a 2018 2wd and then trading it in for a 2019 4x4.
Do it right the first time and get a 4x4.
It’s cheaper to get it right the first time.

Hey what did you end up doing for your trip? Keeping the 2wd?
