We found two beagles on the side of the interstate.. Best dog's ever. One died from cancer when he was 1. But the other one I have had for 10 years, since I was in first grade.

if he was already thin, then odds are he could have been wandering around for a few days already, or just mistreated, i would say either way your rescuing that dog, dont feel bad, if anything i would feel even better about picking him up and i say pat yourself on the back and give that dog a great home, like im sure you will. i wouldnt feel any regret, can't see any negatives about that awesome dog and his story.

best of luck with your new friend

might i recommend the "furminator", its a brush, for when that little guy starts to shed, for your house and your truck to be cleaner lol, expenisive instores, but i found a good deal on ebay.

Did he have any kind of collar at all? Even if there was no ID tag, a rabies tag has a number than can be traced. It's also possible he may be "chipped" ... it's increasingly common for pet owners to inject am inexpensive but permanent traceable ID chip into their pet's skin (usually around the back of the neck). Check with your local veterinarian or animal control for more information on tracing a rabies ID or scanning for a chip.

If he had no collar or other traceable identifier, you're doing the right and decent thing by checking with Animal Control. You can place flyers, or as an alternative, you can also post a "found" dog ad in your local paper (may be free) and on your local Craigslist.

But times are truly tough out there, and abandoned animal cases are definitely on the rise too. So you never know ... either way short or long term, you've done your dog friend a favor by getting him off the street. Keep us posted!

x2, this is the right thing to do. you even say you lost a dog before and someone returned him. how would you feel if that guy would have kept your dog? have him scanned and checked out at the vet/shelter to see if anyone has reported him missing. if not, like others have said you're obviously taking a liking to him and going to treat him well so keep him. good luck man and good looking dog!

Thanks Ill look into that if I keep him.

Yeah no tags what so ever, Taking him in today to get checked for the chip.

I have already decided if his owner steps forward and there are no kids invovled Im going to ask how much $$$ it will take to adopt him, there is a price in my head that I wont go over and lets just say, its up there.

I am today is the day to get him checked, Im hoping there isn't one, but if the owner wants him back then I AM hoping there is one.

Congrats on the good looking dog man! Rescued pups are always the best... we rescued mine and she is super loving.

It's not your job to put up flyers that you found him, it's the previous owners job to put flyers up if they want him back. So, like you said earlier - call the pound again in a few days and if no one reported a missing dog than he is yours.

    Congrats man!

Cute dog. Def check for a micro chip, I can't believe the warden didn't suggest that! I hope nobody claims him because you sound like you would give him a great home.
If you do get to keep the dog it will be great to you too. They know when someone has saved them and will be eternally faithful. Let us know what happens. And if you do get to keep him, be sure to post a pic in the Lets See Your Dogs!!

Didn't read it all, but take him to a shelter or vet and make sure he gets checked to make sure he doesn't have a microchip in. Lots of folks "lo-jack" their pets, but unfortunately there are different brands that don't work on other brands' readers.

NM, I see this has been covered!
(just adding to my post count :) )

Yeah I felt the same way but eh, I went ahead and put up some fliers so now we see.

    Good deal thanks!

Also he was checked this morning and there was NO microchip

    Find some I love rotties

    LOL nice!

Ok so morning update, Put up fliers this morning took him to vet they checked for micro chip no chip!!!! :D:cool:

She saw me smile and said I hope they dont come for him you seem like you already love him. I smiled and said well if the do come and they dont have kids Im going to offer them a adoption fee for him.

He seems pretty excited this morning and hyper, so we played now he is laying down again haha.

He laid at the foot of my bed all night.

He has diarrhea, he tells me when he needs to go out though so Im guessing someone house broke him or we have a very very crazy strong bond lol.

He has not had a accident yet I am thankful for that but I do have tile just incase so it wont be that big of a deal.

We took a 30minute car ride, he did not get sick (whew) and seemed to semi enjoy it he was much happier when we pulled back into my driveway he recognized the place I guess and started wagging his tail about 50mph!

My cat thinks we are replacing him so I am giving him extra attention, he is starting to accept the fact there is something that is 2-5x his size LOL

I have already taught him how to

Sit, Stay (for about 10 seconds), fetch, drop, lay down, paw,

    ALMOST roll over lol

He is a very very smart dog!!!

The only flaw (which isnt a flaw it gives him character) is when I leave the room he starts to freak out.... A LOT.

He tore down my blinds on my door (I wanted new ones anyway).

My fiancee said he must have forgot she was there when I walked out and he started crying and freaking out but then she poked her head out and he came running and loved on her and he was ok.

Im guessing ^ that is a sign of the dog being left a lone a lot.

    Poor guy.

Vet said he is a little over a year but not by much.

Golden retriever and shepherd mix she thinks.

So anyway so far so good.

    Keep ya posted!

So glad for you that there's not a chip. The fact that he seemed glad to get home makes me think he was dropped off in nowhere by someone. We rescued our black lab / boxer mix about a year and a half ago. She's the best thing in the world. Took around a year though before she realized we weren't going to leave her and we weren't another foster home. The rescues are so thankful for everything you do for them. Let me tell you, always take the extra time to stop and play with them on the floor and always throw that ball a few extra minutes.

A little tip for dog toys. Go to Petco or Petsmart right after a holiday. You can usually get the holiday toys for 80% off right after the holiday. My wife comes home with a whole bag of toys for under $20.00 every time.

    Here's a pic of mine.

Question is it ok to get his hair cut? I mean is that usual or unusual for a golden retriever?

He looks like he would feel a lot better if he got trimmed up.

Thanks, I have been building up my good karma..... well for a long time.

Now its paying off and I dont see it as ME doing a good thing I see it as HIM helping me out.

I feel so happy right now, he is the best dog, everytime I look at him I smile.

I woke up he was still here it made me smile, my fiancee is happier, Im happier.

He is helping us more then we are helping him.

Im always a happy guy but I have not been THIS happy in a while.

Everything is paying off I feel like Im ontop of the world, just dont ever forget as fast as you get on top, that world can crumble even quicker.
