Thanks, Fairway is my next stop.

BUT also, I found the date code on the tires, and they're from Nov 2017.. Previous owner gave me records of everything, every little maintenance check, tire rotation, etc.. But these new tires aren't in the paperwork.
SO, I guess I won't replace them for this trip.. And I guess they don't last as long as I expected. Looks like he got 2.5 years out of the first set, and I think they'll be due for replacement w/in a year.

I do still need a rotation and alignment before my trip, so will stop by fairway for that.

Those Maxx tires are a good option.. About the same weight as the KO2's. (I don't have the KM's). Do you know if the side walls are heavy like the KO2's "10 ply sidewalls"? That apparently matters for the weight I'm carrying. The Maxx look a little less aggressive, which might be good for road driving.. and I spend most of the time on the highway getting to the good offroad places. But offroad driving, getting just a little further down the trail than any of the other campers, is the purpose of this rig.. I don't want to sacrifice off road performance.

Get e load st maxx and they are the 10 ply you need. A big scout camp I work at runs 235/85/16 e load st maxx on every one of the 100+ vehicles in the fleet and they beat on those trucks hard. Mostly 3/4 ton and lots of driving on badly maintained trails in new mexico

They are 3ply per google. They have a stiff sidewall very puncture resistant. As for the weight rating https://us.coopertire.com/tires/discoverer-s-t-maxx under specs you can look at the tire size and its corresponding ratings.

Did I mention I hate changing front diff fluid. Taking off the skid is a pain in the ars. Glad it’s done for 30k more miles. Now for spark plugs. Then time for new shocks.

I worked that shit down to a science trying to flush my front diff out. I have probably changed it 10 times in the past three months

@G.T. or anyone else who has done it do you have a write up on sound deadening your cab? Or recommendations for trim tools and sound mat?

I used the plans and material from the sadly now defunct sound deadener showdown page. His layout didn’t require as much of the expensive butyl rubber matting as the first layer that most use but selectively placed 4”x10” tiles of it followed by a 1/4” foam mat covered by an 1/8” solid rubber mat. Works amazingly well and I did it myself over the course of three weekends starting with the roof, floor, and doors.

Edit: seems Don left something behind that might be of interest.

I didn't think it was that bad. Use a floor jack under your skid and an impact, Bada bing Bada boom skid down.

Thanks I’ll check it out. I pulled my rear seat to clean around it and left it out for the hell of it and I can’t hear shit in the cab now so it might be a good time to do it.

A bearing exploded in there and I’m too lazy to pull it and all that bs so I just flushed what I could out over time and keep an eye on the magnet grabbing new pieces.

Cooper was just sold to goodyear .:angrygirl: get the good one's while they're still left on the shelves.

i've had the st maxx 10ply's on my truck for a few years now. aside from a shitty alignment from firestone that caused the front one's to cup, they've done pretty well. I've got them in pizza cutter size 255/85/16.

I gotta do the ecgs bushing. Sitting in my truck along with the axle seal. Thinking I’m just gonna pay the 300 to get it done. I’ve been avoiding it too long.
