I came from ford and went to Toyota.

I don't know how much better toyota is these days. I did like the smaller size and the fact my doors stayed closed on the tacoma though

I liked the size of my DCLB Tacoma better, that's for sure. This truck is unnecessarily large. Around where we are that isn't a big deal but in more populated areas it's a burden. I sort of considered looking for an '05 - '06 Tundra from the south with low miles, but the prices were crazy.

I noticed my 2020 came without rubber drain plugs in the doors - I think that was part of one of the TSBs for the earlier ones - so far no cold weather related lock issues!

You can put intermittent wipers on in like 10 minutes for 100$.

:spy: I did like the ranger when I drove it. And if I was in a full size, it wouldn't be a tundra. Reliable, sure, but fuel hungry and lacking ammenities. And the Fords have also been just as reliable as of late so why bother?

I do like the size since I use it in the trails. But the F150 short wheel base isn't that much bigger nowadays, the Tacomas are 'uge!

:spy: now I need to look at some trok prices today and see what makes sense to do!

Time to go buy a ridgeline.

You said that better than I did. For short trips, I'd just go with Carlisle. We're planning a camping trip to Disney next year and I'll likely replace the trailer tires this Fall with Goodyears and replace the no-name tires that the trailer came with (they're also 3 years old and have quite a few miles on them at this point anyways, I'm viewing it as cheap insurance for the trip).

We have to get @guitarjamman back. He was in a Ford, then went to the dark side and bought a Ram. Then, we can start to work on @mach1man001 :stirthepot:

I'm not a tire guy, but I do have a lot of trailer tires. Funny, I just last night got the compressor going and aired them all up. Between all the trailers I own and the spares for them I have 17 trailer tires to deal with!!

What is the trailer we are talking about? Boat? Camper? Open deck? What are you hauling and how often/far do you haul it?

Honestly, I'm really hoping the new Ranger/Bronco platform is a good one. I don't like the direction Toyota is going w/ the Tacoma and it would be really nice to have options in 5 or 6 years when I start considering a new(er) daily.

I'm a little hesitant about how electronic the new Fords are (the touchscreen/digital control of the 4x4 functions, etc) but from what little I've seen of them myself and the "long term reviews" of the earliest release of the new Ranger, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Oh, don't make me state all the reasons why a good full size is better than a Taco on this forum... I really don't want to do that!

It's worth saying that few issues this truck had (as with the last one, all were issues from day one or close to it) were with the fancy stuff. Two bad cameras (recall, bad batch) and a washer jet leaked that wouldn't exist if the truck didn't have a front camera. The cooled seat fan in the driver's seat was also bad - it had a vibration like a bad bearing. I eventually should get them to look at the headunit because it can be slow and have its episodes but it hasn't gotten to the point where a restart doesn't fix it so I haven't worked up the motivation.

I've heard of the most horror stories with tech with Ram/Jeep. A friend lost control of the heat in his grand Cherokee because the screen failed. At least the Fords tend to still have buttons and knobs for everything.

Adding to this, I have only had one real issue, that could have happened on any vehicle, a poorly routed wire for the O2 sensor that wore to metal and shorted. HOWEVER, I will say that it's the crazy amount of electrical stuff that has me "worried". Not really, I have a 140k mile bumper to bumper warranty, but for instance... the truck has something called "exit assist" or whatever... all it does is when you turn the truck off the driver seat automatically moves all the way back. I really like this feature as I am somewhat "festively plump". But occasionally I will be driving to work and I'm like, "why the hell am I so far away from the pedals?" Well it never pushed me forward, so I push the driver preset #1 on the door pad, which should move me to my set position- and it's gone. I have to reset the position.

A few other times I have come out to my truck after dark and the head unit backlight is still on. Just the backlight, hours later after I shut the truck off. It's never drained the battery and the truck has always started.

So @deanosaurus I understand your concern with all the tech. But I would imagine if you bought a lower trim model you'd avoid a lot of these types of issues.

Too much tech is certainly an issue! I think it's nitw become a cost savings for the manufacturer. Remove all buttons and have everything controlled by a screen. It's this reason that for the wife's next vehicle I would rather a new armada than a new qx80. We have 5 years though so maybe by then we can have better options from Toyota and Lexus.

I don't have the exit feature on, but I know mine won't let me recall a memory unless the truck is in park.

One reason I want manual seats. Too much shenanigans in power seats. How often do I move my driver seat once I know the position? Only to clean it, and when I do, it takes forever to move the seat to clean it. And then you can't get it back to the same exact spot very easily, it takes forever. I really like manual seats. To the level that I want to consider swapping them into my 2020. :D

yeah I'm not a huge fan of everything being touch screen. Not just for tech failures, but like....this is new england, gloves exist. And it's very quick and easy to know which knob turns my heat hotter and more blow blow. But on a screen now I need to actually look at the screen to know where to touch etc.

I'm most likely going to to the same. She prefers it over the WK2 she is driving down in TX.
And the residual is pretty much what yours was, and mine has 22k on it.
    .
With pricing as it is right now, it just doesn't make any sense for me to shop around.

On another note, anyone here do paint/bodywork? Looking atna cap, but, its MGM, and I need MBM... price could be right if the paint isn't ridiculous....
