Yeah we have a large umbrella policy for various things...we do waivers, but I'm told they are useless - LOL. The funniest thing we had was a 'tree hugger parent" call me and was pissed that we skinned rabbits to cook...they thought it was cruel...I told them that we killed the rabbit first.

Oh yes...uggh - yeah we have no HOAs...

Yeah 2 of the 3 have a plan - the youngest has a 'dream'...LOL...BIG difference.

My biggest issue now is my son is making a chunk of change - averaging 25-40 bucks an hour right now doing tractor work, construction. landscaping, odd jobs...plus he is making a TON of money doing blacksmith work - from making hair accessories to building railings and such. He has enough projects/jobs that he could work 12 hours a day 7 days a week. This is making him think about different options, HAHAHA.

    They do suck!

Agreed, along with expectation versus reality of life. I would guess that they'll figure it all out with your help.

That's great money. It sounds like he talented enough to keep on going and zero reason not to. You have to be proud.

LOL - yeah I'm proud of all of them...they all give back - we've made them do community service (local food bank, nursing homes, etc) since they were 10 - that is the coolest part...look at some of these faces....my son is in the red shirt, he does the cooking within shouting distance of our home (that is the back of our home - with all the lights) so the younger boys are not too scared when they move down by the river to sleep.

When the boys leave they have usually fished, kayaked, rode a horse, thrown an AX (we invite the dads to stay and learn this too), cooked out and slept out under the stars. We also often offer some self defense techniques (also to the parents) as everyone in our family has Black Belts in Martial Arts. These camping trips are not the normal camping for most folks - but let me tell you to these kids it is something most will appreciate for a long time.IMG_3781.jpgIMG_3780.jpgIMG_3770.jpg

That is excellent and is a great thing you and your kids are doing. It will not only help the folks you invite, but obviously give you guys some great experiences and lessons.

    Just great stuff.

Excellent - can you tell me your experience? the things i think about:

After a day of dirty/muddy driving to get to camp, that going over the dirty truck - would it be awful to mess with the next morning (dirt getting all up in everything as i fold it up). Does it fold-up compact enough? Anything about using or setting it up make it too much of a pain?

    Cheers!

I like it. Takes ten minutes tops to set up. But......If your truck is dirty it will get dirty as well. It has a bug screen. I am planning to add a wooden pull out sleeping extension but if I don't get around to it I can see myself using the DAC for years. Here is a vid of a girl putting one up on her Ford . It is probably a large. Tacos take the midsize.

Thank you so much. So on Amazon they make a note that 2nd gens take the fullsize tent? is that right, from your experience?

Maybe. I could be forgetting which one I bought. I will look when I get home and see if mine is labeled.

I have a 3rd gen. I bought the midsize for my leer 100xr. Fits fine. I do remove my rear Thule bar when I use it.

As many as I can fabricate
That's comforting to see. When we're traveling around and I see young kids enjoying the outdoors I almost get emotional. I've at times given up on youth and their lack of interest in camping, hiking and backpacking etc. I'm glad to see and here these stories. Thanks.

Yeah I'm with you 100% and that is why I got into this...lots of these kids we deal with are typical "City kids"...some are very poor...some are not, but regardless most have never shot a gun (though some of the kids from rougher areas certainly have seen their fair share and heard the shots), they haven't cooked over an open fire, swam in a river, been on a horse, shot a bow and arrow, just spent the weekend being a boy (my definition at least LOL)! Heck many of them have never wrestled or learned any defensive skills - but most all can talk a good game, LOL. I can tell you I have had only a handful that have not enjoyed themselves and even fewer that refuse to follow all my rules - which are many (including yes sir/mam).

I spend a lot of time with their dads and my son leads the boys on most activities. My opinion of young folks has changed - all too often it is the fact they do not have the opportunity to get outdoors and do outdoor stuff. When they get the chance they are VERY attentive and really get into it. I will tell you while the boys are grateful - the (most) parents are VERY thankful and appreciative...oddly to me the moms are the ones that really want their boys to learn these skills - the dads too but it is the moms that I had assumed (there is that word) would think we are creating more toxic masculinity - a term I often hear from my college daughter.

This pic is of my daughter and son - this is a set up my son does to teach Blacksmithing...the boys love this a LOT! IMG_6243.jpg

The kid in the red needs to get their eyes checked out.... Eye shine on humans is normally red, white can indicate possible eye issues. Its probably nothing, but better to get checked to make sure.

Im sure its nothing, but worth a check. I saw the eye shine and thought it was weird, so I started googleing it and came across lots of pictures of kids with 1 eye shine like that, then went down a rabbit hole of websites from the UK.

Also, Im not even remotely a medical profesional, so I could be worrying about nothing, but I like to be cautious.
