Toyota Oil Test at 11K miles

You need to fix your tin foil hat. It's got a small crease.
This is just another thread showing 10K is fine. The forum has hundreds of threads like this yet... yet... there's posts like yours that just cannot comprehend that the baseline for oil changes has changed from 3K to 5K to 10K and... nothing blew up... the world did not end... the band did not quit playing... as a matter of fact most owners just yawned and gave another gold star to the engineers at Toyota.
Except a few owners who just cannot let the old ways die and try to continue to recycle grandpa's ways from back in the day. Good luck man.

 

Change is scary though

 

I always change my oil at 5K miles, regardless. On my Subarus, BMW's, and now my Tacoma. I am the only one financially responsible for my engine (after warranty)

 

Some people are rebels, others are lemmings. To each their own, change your oil when you want folks.

 

Heck, i ran mobil 1 5-30w synthetic in my tundra its entire 19 years, 292k miles i owned it. I only did the oil change once a year every 15-20k miles. That truck still ran like new. With the additive packages today with oil, i think we waste a lot by doing oil changes before their called for. I was in germany a few years back visiting relatives, they told me its unheard of changing oil as we do. Oil is like precious metals to them.

 

Disclaimer: I was looking forward to the new 10k mile oil change interval on my brand new 2018.

But, I have a bad habit of reading my new vehicle owner’s manual and found that mine fit the 5k interval recommended for ‘special conditions’. Short trips in the winter, towing the camper and dust. Plenty of said dust in the summer. (That’s a thing in Manitoba)

Plus, I’m not recycling grandpa’s ways, I am grandpa!

My miles sound very similar.

 

I got my dad interested so he'll be sending in a sample from his 4.7 4Runner with over 400,000 miles.

 

Same. 8000km. I quoted 5k miles so the vast majority of our brethren can relate. Kilometres always have me converting to miles even at this late stage in the big kilometre switcheroo.

 

Those 4.7 v8's were a great motor, but thirsty. I did many trips to quebec in the winters towing 3 sleds with an enclose trailer.

 

Transmission flush? No, no, no...a thousand times no! Drain and fill. Let me repeat, drain and fill ONLY.

I don't know how many times I've seen people get a transmission flush on a perfectly good transmission, then it starts slipping and needs to be replaced.

 

Although I use the 10K mile service interval for oil changes, I also changed the initial oil out somewhere around 5K miles...

From my work on my race bike engines, I believe that during the first few thousand miles, as the various metal parts are all synching & mating, there can be filings, etc. that develop during that initial break-in period.

Oil is cheap and readily recyclable - and it's just for that initial time...

 

So the SC doesn't affect the contract or driveline warranty? Or have those expired?

I did it at 1k miles, 5k miles, 10k miles and then fell into the 10k interval. Maybe I did 2 extra oil changes. Maybe I didn't. It was worth the few minutes and 80 bucks (combined) to add those 2 extra might not be needed. Might not be worth it for everyone. Oh well.

 

I hadn’t heard that but it makes sense since most of our oil is produced domestically while theirs likely isn’t.

Two of my Motorcycles are Austrian and require Motorex oil which I think is produced somewhere in Europe (I’ll have to check one of the bottles later to see where it’s made). It’s $56/Gallon here! So if that’s comparable to what they have to pay over there to get say Mobil 1 I could see why they may run longer oil change intervals than we do!

 

5qts (1.25gal) of Mobil 1 at Walmart is less than $23.

 

Lol respectfully, in what fucking universe would Toyota engine building = your one race bike engine? Toyota sold a MILLION vehicles last month. They sold 25K Tacomas! I'm quite sure there are zero common steps.
It's hard to imagine the scale. Just on the Tacoma, Toyota builds almost one engine a minute every minute a month if two shifts. Pretty sure they have some tricks up their sleeves...
