Canada has a 14 day quarantine period for international travel , F1 wasn't going to send all the teams and personnel to Montreal 2 weeks early , not sure there was any decision to be made

I must admit to being out of touch with Canadian humor since SCTV went off the air.

 

Canada should be banned from F1? I think you have that backwards. F1 was holding the Canadian organizers up for ransom; pay F1 an additional $6M or else they wouldn't show up. Shame on F1 management, not on the Canadian organizers.

 

I might not be familiar with all the nuances here, but if all of F1 supporting crews and teams need to quarantine for 14 days prior to activities, how much do you think that would cost? I kinda wonder if the ransom wasn’t more on Canada’s part.

 

Not sure of all the nuances either, but like everything, revolves around $$$. From Canada's point of view I can see a desire to cancel due to no fans allowed as the big money maker has to be from tourism and if no people spending $$$ then recouping the cost for the local city/venue has to be near impossible. TBH, I am more surprised that more of the races are not canceled.

 

F1 wanted the Canadian Federal and Quebec Provincial governments to cough up an additional $6M to be given to the promoter to offset loss of fans at the event

Its irrelevant though because Canada currently requires a 14 day quarantine for international travellers and F1 is in Baku the weekend before the Canadian GP's normal slot

So the monetary demand is because the event won’t allow fans and this is supposed to make up for ticket sales? Hmmm. Not thinking it should work that way.

Couldn't watch FP1 because I had to get the kiddo ready and off to school. Going to watch FP2 though.

 

Not sure that there is an "FP2".

 

If the second session is qualifying, why would any team run a reserve driver in FP1? Seems like a bad idea.

if you're talking about the new sprint race qualifying , thats only at 3 races this year , not this weekend though
