Hello guys I recently picked up a mag gray 2011 trd sport DC/LB/JBL 4x2 for 29,370 out the door (in CA), the sticker was 29,584. most dealers were around the 30k range and not budging, so when this price came up i jumped on it,my question essentially is what are your opinions on my deal? did I do well?

Sounds to me like you paid too much. My 2010 DC TRD Sport 4X4 was stickered at $31,980 and my price before trade was $27,100. They gave me 10,100 for my 2004 TRD Offroad Xtra Cab. Final price before tax and dest. charges = $17,000 even.

I'll comment because I JUST went through this last month. I dont work at a dealership so i really am not 100% on how everything works but i have bought enough cars and done enough research to do it right from now on.

I just bought my 2011 Mag Gray DC/trd sport short bed automatic 4x2 for $26,500 in Atlanta.

options - tow package and trd mats (which i didnt want, dont get me started)

You said "sticker" and i'm assuming that was MSRP - Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. When buying a car forget about the "sticker". Thats
the price the dealership is hoping you are dumb enough to go for.
"Invoice price" is what the dealer paid and what they dont want you to know. Use that number as your base line. MSRP minus invoice price is their profit.

Now you know how much negotiating room you have.

A lot of times you can get it at invoice price because the dealer has a holdback in that price of a few hundred bucks usually. They also are usually willing to do it if they are trying to make sales numbers.

I know that my truck was MSRP for $28,500 or $29,000 i think. Invoice price was $26,500.

You research and find invoice price with options on edmunds or NADA and how it compares to the MSRP.

Then with tax, tag and title i think i was at $27,500 OTD because i had a trade and only had to pay sales tax on the difference.

Now, you have the Sport/wJBL. thats like an extra grand on top of the sport package. Maybe you paid a little much. But overall pretty good. But then again it's Cali. So all in all i dont think you did too bad.

Yeah you didn't too too bad. Especially since I just paid 23 otd with taxes for a TRD Sport DC 2005 that is lifted/aftermarket rims and has 60000 on it with bumper to bumper warranty. So yeah I would feel much better with your deal then mine. Hope that makes you feel better ha ha. California sucks for cars and so do the taxes!

Stop worrying about it and get on with enjoying your truck. Weather you paid to much or got a good deal doesn't matter any more.

this is almost like the insurance comparison. the deals that can be had can be very regional, and also depend on so many variables and factors.

if they weren't budging in your area, and you gave it a valiant effort, then they weren't budging and there is nothing you can do except go to another area/region and shop. something in your area makes it so the volume is enough that they don't need to sacrifice $ for movement. 2wd TRD are probably relatively popular in california.

The sales tax rate for SLO is 8.75%, so his "price before tax" is $29,370 - 8.75% - $400 (licensing fees) = $26,606. He said "out the door", meaning all taxes and fees included.

Seems like a pretty fair deal to me (10% off MSRP.) Actually, seems like a great deal...

actually a dealership gets it lower than invoice price. the invoice price is the price if buying a single vehicle. but the dealership is buying in bulk so they're actually paying lower than invoice. so essentially, the dealership is already making money even if you get it at invoice

They have a "holdback" price that is lower than invoice.

Invoice pricing on the internet is fucking joke it's a random # pulled out of thin air..Only person that knows true invoice is the owner of the dealership..

    Too few to list.
FYI, dealer hold back is 2% of the cost of a base model (single cab, ext, dbl). So for example a 4x2 dbl cab auto lb base is $24,450 (toyota.com) and 2% of that is $489. So that means the higher the price of the base model, the more dealer holdback they get. "Invoice" price is a good place to start negotiations rather than sticker price.

2009 DC Short Bed 4x4 TRD Off-Road OTD at $28,500 with 100K Warranty, Gap Insurance and Prepaid Maintenance till September this year. Sticker was $32,000. However, I did by my truck September of 2008 when gas prices were are there all time high, so the dealer was very anxious to move a truck.

what i noticed is their willing come down alot more when you trade in or finance because their going to make a killing on your truck or on interest.

im envious, screw CA our tax rate is 8.75 percent and the dmv rapes truck buyers.

    yes it does!

i already have a 05 4runner thats 4wd to cover all of my off roadin needs :).

im not worried at all, just looking for feedback from people who have gone thru it also.

I believe this too, only the owner knows for sure

Did you get the LB also?
