Unfortunately, I am in a rust state (Ohio). Will a Walker system survive here, or rust off just like everything else? Are they stainless?

I'll wait for the OP to answer, but if he doesn't claim it, you got dibs.

The catback is fine, just surface rust. I'm just prepping my truck for the URD supercharger.

While stainless exhaust is certainly superior to carbon steel, it is very costly.

An alternative when installing a new system is to clean the new pipes with acetone and get them as free from oil as you possibly can. Then paint them with high heat paint before installing them. The high heat paint is not a replacement for stainless but it is better than nothing in states that use a lot of salt. Even the newer aluminized pipes will benefit from this process.

Exhaust systems rust from the inside out due to water vapor in the exhaust gas condensing inside the pipes and mufflers. They also rust from the outside in, from road salt, mud and water.
The solution for the water inside the pipes is to get the system hot from one end to the other. Avoid short trips, particularly in cold weather, that don't heat the entire system up enough to dry the water out of the interior of the pipes. That water vapor will condense inside those cooler pipes, particularly the farther you get from the engine, and rust the system from the inside out. Nothing will rot the exhaust system off a vehicle faster than letting it sit for long periods with water inside.

The solution for the outside is to prevent water and salt from reaching the steel. The high heat paint is just another barrier in the fight.

The freshly painted system will smoke like the devil the first time you fire it up but after that initial run, you're fine.

What do you know I jinxed myself!!

Talk about the exhaust system lasting the hanger at the back breaks .

I am not sure if the bouncing around did more damage Might be time to install the new exhaust

I wouldn't bother with OEM for exhaust other than the 4Runner mini header. I had no issues with Bosal and a Magnaflow cat. I had a Flowmaster cat fall apart inside after a few months so I'll never buy Flowmaster again. The Flowmaster stainless spot rusted in that same amount of time. The Magnaflow cat still looks as good as it did new after a couple years.

I've been running the MagnaFlow stainless (lifetime warranty) cat-back since 2010. Tail pipe rusted/corroded at the joint with the muffler and sheared off in 2016. It was replaced under warranty. Just the other day, the same thing happened. I'm certain it will be replaced under warranty too. Only rub to that is that you must return the old system before they ship the new one, so you are down for some period of time. Prior to purchasing this, I was only getting about two years out of a muffler. Rust belt, plus many short trips where it didn't get warmed up, so condensation in the muffler.

It rusts at the heat effected zone from the welding .

The welding destroys the anti rust qualities in the stainless quite a common issue in a application with lots of thermal cycling.

It is a wonder Magnaflow does not give it after welding treatment to keep this from not happening.

Strangely, it isn't at a welded area. It shears off right where the tailpipe slips over the muffler and is clamped. IMG_2020.jpg

The muffler is of a very different grade of stainless. It never rusts, and I'll bet it would shine up like a new dime. I think the reason it corrodes there, worst and first is because of the dissimilar metals, and the tailpipe is the weaker of the two.

    I purchased from eTrailer.com, and their reference number is 485.18 485.18 Mf15811. That's for a 2004 double-cab.

I wanted to try these headers on my 2003 2.7L , but I heard nothing but bad news on these headers. Anyone here has used these in the past, I am in NY and will need a CARB cat that I can bolt on my exhaust as well, anyone has any ideas on where I can find them? Worst case, I will end up doing a custom stainless setup and scrap these CHINA headers.
