Ive lived in Florida for almost 7 years now. Rented in Fort Lauderdale in a apt building with HOA, then moved into my girlfriends condo with HOA..Built a house in a residential area. Yes it can be risky if you have a crazy neighbor move next door. I actually have a house next to me that no one lives in and landscape is overgrown. Thats the only crappy house on the initial road.
The reason I didnt want an HOA is cause i do not want rules what so ever. I dont want them telling me how to cut my tree or need to cut the grass shorter or cant paint the house a certain way. List goes on. No thank you

Can my neighbor park a boat in his yard for 10 years? yes but good thing my best friend from NY moved in next door on the otherside lol
Hoping they put the ugly house next to me on the market so i can buy that also lol

It's different when it's your problem to fix and its in your hands. I can't just go to town with the chain saw in his yard unfortunately. Something about trespassing and whatnot.

My neighbor is 95 years old. I cut her front yard, her backyard is an overgrown forest of junk trees. It doesn’t bother me, I enjoy watching the hawks hunt from my fence. Glad we aren’t in an HOA.

I just don't want the leaves killing my grass, and I hate raking them. Mulching them is even more time consuming. I got a compost pile in the dead corner of my yard since nothing grows over there anyway....
Only trees I got on my property are a Crab Apple tree and a Birch. Both years I've been here my driveway is FILLED with leaves, and the backyard gets completely swamped. I blew them all over into a 30'x30' area and they were about 3-4 ft deep. :annoyed:Spent all day mulching them then finally gave up and blew the rest into the dead corner.

The development I'm in has covenants that need to be followed but no fees or anyone to police it. Fortunately it's a newish neighborhood and no one has done anything stupid yet.

Unless you count the family that built a $1M house between two $300k houses. That was pretty dumb. I'll never understand it.

Maybe they were sold on the location. I'd prefer 2.5-5 acres and no HOA if I were to build. We have an HOA that doesn't seem to enforce much, but when they do it's usually petty stuff like patio string lights.

2+ acres and no HOA is what I'm looking for. Every now and then something pops up but in the greater KC area good property is hard to find. I want treed property so I can not see any neighbors and just maintain the area closest to the house.

Laundry room remodel. Floor was rotted from previous leaking door. Replaced a section. Caulked the cracks just because to help water proof it some. And my cut wasn’t dead on the money. Floor paint and base boards tmo.

I'm looking to build in the next 10-15 years, so I got time to wait. Just trying to find property is the issue.

Here, too. A coworker's kid is trying to buy his first house and can't even get in to look at them before they're already sold for more than they're listed for.
