I appreciate the motivational words, I was able to get it after walking away and cooling down. It felt so nice to get it all lined up. Just need to re RTV and reassemble the case.

They're a pain. I found it was easiest to have the springs in place, then get someone to help push the keys in and up from the bottom of the 4lo gear while pushing the gear down. Hope that makes sense

Well boys, she’s in. I was a little over zealous with the floor hole but not a big deal. Dash lights are working so time to relocate the shifter and button it up.

4LO is a little close for comfort to the trim so I’ll tweak it more tomorrow. I tried my darndest to retain the rubber isolator but no dice. Just didn’t have the room.

Looking at pics, I should be able to eliminate this bend here and it’ll solve my problem.

I had problems with the t-case shifter still hitting the trans shifter even with the t-case shifter so far over that it was hitting the trim. Really 4HI and reverse was the main problem since with the 5-speed reverse is kinda where 6th gear is for you. Ultimately I could not find the sweet spot so I just moved the t-case shifter to the other side.

When was it hitting? While cycling through parked or while driving? I have a lot of room in between the shifters in 2hi and 4hi so I don’t think it’s a concern.

this is 6th gear/2hi, so the closest they’ll ever be. Even trying to push the two together by hand I couldn’t get them to touch.

    And then here’s 6th/4hi.

Parked. Maybe it was 4LO and reverse that was the problem. Either way, you have a lot more room than I did.

One thing I thought was neat is I was able to repurpose this cat converter protector into the shift lever. I had to remove it to get the y pipe out and it looks pretty useless. Cut off the ends and bent it to shape.

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
Looks good. A little trick since you had to cut the isolator off. You can take dynamat or similar rubber sound tape and wrap the diy shifter and it’ll take a lot of the vibration out. Just needs some weight to it.

Not a swap but a full install since I went from pre runner to 4x4. Only area that was cut was the bottom part of the coin tray. The closest they come together is 1/8” and about 1/2” away from the right side while using 4L. Cheers.

Getting ready to do this probably next week. 93 pages is a lot to read through. I have a question for people that have done the swap with a 6spd without a short throw and NO twin stick crawl box:

Did the shifters interfere with eachother or did they have to be modified to not hit eachother?

I’m hoping I can just install the t case without it interfering with my gear shifter.

If you're manual you can use the FJ cruiser shifter for the trans and the t-case shifter from the awd t-case that is in the manual shifter.
Another option is put in the short throw shifter kit and all good.

That sucks. I hope you find it for your peace of mind. I'd coat that sucker in some kind of super tacky grease (like dielectric) to hold it in place, the gear oil will wash it out when it starts running.

Reminds me of a story I read recently where a passenger boarding an Air China flight threw a handful of change into the turbine for "good luck".
