Hickory or maple. I think maple gives it a little too much or a woody taste so I've been sticking with hickory recently. I also throw it in a foil pan since its easy to over cook the bottom and end up all dried out

So the leak isn't as bad, they might've fixed it a little, but It's looking like a rear main seal. :bananadead:

    That... sounds right!

This also sounds right. LOL. She keeps saying she wants a bumper with a bull bar on it. I refuse to get one for these reason.

I don’t know about all the jeeps, but I replaced a RMS on an XJ a number of years ago and it was a split seal so the trans didn’t have to be dropped which was a nice bonus.

Pretty sure the trans needs to be dropped, then the oil pan to get it out fully. Looks like a total pain in the ass. It's billed at around 8 hrs of labor

Can’t be terrible. I did the rear main seal on my truck last year. Most of the cost is labor. I work for cheap beer :anonymous:

try the Lucas oil stop leak. My rear main seal was weeping for a little while. Used a qt of that during an oil change and haven’t had a problem since.

I'll give it a shot. Should I wait for it to be a quart low and add it or just do it now

Yea if it’s full I’d try draining some out and top off with the stop leak. Unless the bottle says something contrary, which I doubt.

That stop leak is the worst stuff you could put in an engine or radiator. They should call it eventual rebuild fluid.

yep seen it first hand alot working at CAT. people pour that shit in and then eventually the sludge builds up enough to start blocking passages

If there is a leak, then it needs to be repaired, but I see your point that adding something that could potentially clog up the whole system is not a clear path to success. I think if the leak is from a point where you need to pull a motor or transmission or a steering rack to fix it, then this stuff could buy some time. I'd look at it on a case by case basis.
A rear main seal, even if 8 hours, is far shorter that a full tear down.
