Finally making some progress on the running of the home built plasma table.

Still need to source a Z axis. The drag tip works okay on large silhouette cut outs. Not good at all for anything percice.

Made wall hangers for the niece and nephew yesterday.

I have vid if anyone wants it posted.

This is making me want to jump in and buy the rest of the parts to build mine.

Gonna have to uber on my weekends off to help pay for mine. Especially with steel prices being up.

True. Iron prices are up there. Fortunately my fab shop has many sheet metal remnants that they let me buy at a fare price.

Has the Purchasing Agent been buying on Price and thinks they got a good deal??

Just like knock off truck parts knock off welding consumables is a scary thought.

Poor consumables is possible but some other things that might cause it .

No way a Copper Nozzle should be glowing Red hot .

    What size pipe Diameter ?

Is the a Robot weld or semi Automatic Human doing the welding ??

It sounds like your getting splatter between the contact tip and the nozzle allowing weld current to flow into the nozzle with all the current of course it is going to get hot..

another thing that would also generate more heat in the nozzle is reduced shielding gas flow which would also be effected by excess splatter in the nozzle .

I have welded Larger wire No doubt running hotter with no real problems rebuilding 5 yard loader buckets

    That is really strange .

The over heated Nozzles do not effect the weld quality?

How often are you needing to change them out a shift??

If you think of it post a picture of one of the cooked nozzles.

I am really Curious about the cause of this.

I can`t recall every hearing of a problem like this the fact weld quality is not effected is different but a good thing .

Are you welding with the contact tip far back in the nozzle??Which would have the nozzle almost on the work piece ??

I've never seen anyone weld with that much cup extending over the tip.

Are you sure you are using long enough tips?

I'm betting if that cup and tip get adjusted properly, you will be dialing back on the amperage.

That is way to much spatter for only 10 minutes of Arc Time.

To me the tip is way to deep in the Nozzle keeping way to much heat in the nozzle.

Just who came up with that set up or were the guns just put together however they ended up??

The Nozzle is getting far to much splatter from having to be so close to the work piece not to mention all the added heat.

Copper when it gets over a 1000 degrees turns black it does not glow red .

If the splatter is turning Red after the 6 minutes of Arc time I could see.

Maybe go to a bigger diameter nozzle to help bleed off more heat.

I won't pretend to know enough about anything else in your post to comment, but heated copper will absolutely glow red. In fact, you can see brazing rod through it as you fill a joint. It will blacken when it cools but only if exposed to atmosphere. A nitrogen purge will prevent the black on the inside of pipe.

It had to have been 30 years ago maybe longer padding Copper Journals could be 6" thick solid copper preheated and post heat treated reacts different then pipe or I just don`t remember all the details

I gotta wonder if some of what looks like splatter is just not vaporized wire because it is coming out so hot even for spray mode.

    once you have the welder
what's the best source for learning?
    YouTube? Classes?
Searching for books on "How to weld", buying the first thing that pops up, and reading it?
