I dunno I like the idea of selectable AWD but that doesn't seem to be an option.

I think I prefer being able to burnout, drift, and pivot the rear end off-road. Plus I really really want 2wd low for traffic and backing up trailers and such being a manual.

If I want a quick AWD toy I'll get a subie.

Sweet that it's working for you though. Would be dope in a lowered Xrunner or something.

so the FJ auto trans t case shifter won’t work with the 6spd shifter?

I just went through this yesterday. No it won’t. I have a urd short shifter and the two shifters still barely touched each other when I was in 6th gear/2hi.

Edit: I also highly recommend taking the time to read through the thread. Every question you could possibly think of has been answered in here.

I understand. I was looking up manual transmission shifters for the FJ cruiser. It’s cheaper than a short throw kit. Would using the FJ’s 6spd shifter alone solve this problem?

Not really. Even if you remove the transmission shifter out of the equation, the t case shifter is still incredibly close to the trim in 4lo, meaning it'll rattle offroad. Someone else mentioned the t case shifter from the AWD case is a shorter throw so maybe if you combined those two things.

In case anyone was wondering like I was, you can cut off the t case actuator connection from the factory wiring harness. I wasn't sure if there was still power at the connection ( assumed there wasn't ) and I confirmed that with a multimeter. I cut it off for a more factory look under there.

Damn. I’m glad I asked this before diving in next week. I don’t care so much about the rattle in 4lo I just want it to function. I was hoping I could get by with the FJ 6spd shifter

I just went ahead and ordered the FJ MT shifter. It’s a third the price of the TRD short throw kit so I figured I’d try it and send it back if it doesn’t work.

Did you check out Core Shifters?

Highly recommend their short shifter. It's far better then the TRD and the URD and cheaper too I believe.

should. i have used both styles of the t-case sifter to see what i like better. either way mine was close to the trim on the right side of the console. that was my issue. hope that helps

i would at least put some of the crimp on white wire caps. last thing anyone needs is a blown fuse and pissing off the computers. lol!

That’s why I checked with a multimeter. There’s no power going to any of them, so no way to blow a fuse. I didn’t think they would be powered anyways because of eliminating the 4wd ecu but wanted to double check.

Did your 4wd ecu have two plugs or one? Only thing I see where everyone else says their 4wd ecu is a box thats inca slightly different location but it only has one plug not two like most people. I am trying to eliminate some of the flashing lights from my dash lol

It has two. Take out the glovebox, and where it latches, there’s a single 10mm bolt. Undo that, remove the plastic cover and you’ll see the 4wd ecu. It’s hiding behind there.

Phew, I think I finally found the sweet spot. Clearances are pretty good. I have a minimum of 1” gap at all points. It may occasionally hit the trim while really twisted up but I’m ok with that. I just don’t want it rattling all the time.

Not all these bends are necessary but that’s just how she ended up with the constant cutting and tweaking.

Well after a test drive, I noticed some seepage from between the t case and trans. Did some sleuthing and I have a leak at the output of my trans and I didn't notice it. Now I've gotta drop the case again for like 5 minutes worth of work. If I have to drop this case a 3rd time, twin sticks are going in.

    Noticed this after the fact.
