Not sure about the ECGS but @TacoIII can probably give a few pointers on getting those CVs out he’s had to do it a few times

 

Always happy for feedback. Maybe it can help mitigate the inevitable lamenting that is head my way.

 

CV wasnt horrible. It definitely was a learning curve doing it by myself the first time. Constant pressure and a slight shock to get it off the c clip retainer. If you need a spare hand I should be around.

 

If you guys don’t wanna mess with it at all, I can do it for cheaper than the shops out of my garage. PM me if you guys need small jobs done (CMC, needle bearing, CV swaps, brakes). I’ve even done the cam gears that are available for the second gen on my 4R.

 

Can also gusset spindles, TC or All-Pro cam tab gussets

Jen and I just did a quick Moab trip. Poison Spider Mesa and Chicken Corners / Jackson Hole. Nice temps, but windy in the afternoons, sandy AF. Glad we didn’t camp this time.

Seeing all these jacked jeeps/broncos/ SAS’ed tacos, makes me realize how small potatoes all the mods I’ve done to my truck and 295s are pathetic and tiny.



Next step... full cage, bed bob, rear three link, SAS, 40s. . I wish.

 

MONTHLY MEET

Posting up about the next meet, I had forgotten to post about it last week, so we'll move the date again, so people have time to plan.

I believe this month we are thinking about a brewery meet considering our numbers have been trending in a better direction lately, and some people have had the opportunity to get vaccinated. So with that said, we are planning on meeting at Rio Bravo Brewery. They have a big parking lot in the back and a large outdoor patio. At the moment, there are still restrictions limiting six people to a table, so depending on how many are interested in attending, we can try and get a couple of tables near each other. Otherwise, we can always hang out at someone's house instead if anyone is interested in hosting @TacoIII (the usual host) has some other things going on and won't be able to host at his place.

As usual, drop by for a little or a long while, shoot the shit & drink some beer.

I figured Moab would be pretty hot by now, I was in Tucson hiking last week and it was already mid-90s

 

Nah Moab is about the same as here. It was great except the fucking endless blowing sand.

However I am dying to get back to run the trifecta (Poison Spider - golden spike - gold bar rim), steel bender, strike ravine and a few others.

 

Ya very true I just remember being out there in April a couple years ago and it being pretty toasty I guess I thought it was hotter haha.

I’d definitely like to get out there and see what what I can get the RC through. Have you run any of those others before?

 

No. I’ve been there wheeling twice now? Potash Rd / shaver trail, chicken corners/ jackson hole(boring), hell’s revenge, and poison spider mesa.

You were taking about the ratings and saying sometimes they are all over the place. I’d say the FunTreks guide books are stupid. Easy is a gravel road, moderate is an easy 4x road, and hard is everything else, which is stupid. They need to put all the easy into the gravel category, moderates in to the easy category, and spilt the hards up. The 1-5 jeeptheusa scale is skewed easy too.

The trailsOffroad and red rock jeeper safari 1-10 feels more consistent.

Their ratings are set up based on like best case scenario so they can get people through these group runs. So though they require 35s and both locker for 6s, those trails can readily be run on 33s with maybe no, or at least one locker if you have your shit together.

I have a rear diff locker and 295s(33.5) and too be honest 6s are near the my and the trucks limit. Both hell’s and poison spider mesa are 6s. I can squeak by on some harder probably as I get to be a better off road driver, but now... now I want 35s and need a fucking winch.

Trifecta in Moab says poison and gold bar are 6 (though many people need winched up the waterfall on Goldb Bar) and golden spike is a 7. But consensus is that moderately modded Tacoma’s do quite well across golden spike even with 33s. I’m looking to hit a bunch of the 5/6 range in Moab to get a feel for how I drive and what the truck can handle.

And have to say I’ve found a few little spots in Puerco that are in the 4/5/6 range that I’ve done. I’d like to explore and run Puerco a bit more for practice two foot driving etc, and I’d like to hit some of the Gordy’s trails too.

The truck is my daily so I’m looking to keep body damage to a minimum for a year or two. But this truck may eventually become a trail toy. I saw like 5 badass SAS’ed Tacos in Moab on 37s/40s. That sound fun to figure out

 

Ya I think we were talking about Shaffer and Potash, scenic which is nice but nothing difficult. I'd like to get out on the White Rim and see what's out there I've heard different opinions. Outside of the NP I'e just done Hells Revenge with the GFs dad in his RzR and well it was fine I think it would be better in the truck and if I was actually able to drive.

Yaaa the rating are all over the place and its very dependent on the skill level/build of the truck too bad there isn't just a simple base line. I'd definitely agree on the rating level most things are really just gravel roads with one bolder you can bypass if needed.

Welp I'm definitely interested in a Moab trip or heading out to the Puerco more, starting next week I'll be working 4/10 and have most Fridays off and once a month a Friday and Monday off so we should get a trip together for sure.

Camped Jemez last weekend and truck is finally starting to come together, still waiting for my got damm skids though. But I think 35’s are gonna happen in a week or two, oh and I still need to powder coat the rear bumper we’ve been making

 

I took my boys to a park in Los Alamos after we went house hunting up there. There was a gravel road leading away from it, so we followed it and to my surprise it just kept going. We ended up in Santa Fe National Forest. The Gaia maps I had showed routes back to roads, but they looked like they were pueblos from the signage stating no trespassing. We followed the signs and backtracked.

We're completely unfamiliar with offroading around here since we just got here from Georgia. 2 questions:
- Were we ok to keep on driving in the National Forest? I saw 2 other trucks out there and would love to go back and explore more.
- Is is ever ok to cut through the Pueblos, and is there a better term I should be using for that? I see they're called Pueblos on Google Maps, so I have no idea if that's the right term.
