Well well well, look what arrived a day early. Looks like I’ll make even more progress today.

 

Good think you have access to an industrial sewing machine.

 

They’re not in town right now, but my buddy who built his own gfc, sewing and all, offered to help.

 

All done. Crawled under the truck to put it in and noticed some fluid where the t case and trans meet. I cleaned it up but I may be dropping the case again. at least now everything was freshly removed so doing it again won’t be very hard.

 

Looks like this job took a lot of chickfila consumption to complete

 

This may be a dumb question, but what U-joints did you go with?

Gonna need even more soon. Confirmed there is fluid coming from where the trans and t case meet. Doesn’t smell like gear oil so probably a transmission output shaft seal. Gonna have to drop the case again.

 

This looks just like a cv diff seal. Just pull out the old and put in the new. Should be easy enough.

 

lol I'm a dumbass and don't even know my transmission code. That's for the 5 speed. I can't find a part number for the 6 speed and it's also not in the FSM I zoomed in on one of my previous pics and it looks like there's a cover and indeed a leak. I wonder if toyota uses a paper gasket or FIPG there. Hopefully I'll have time to drop the case again tomorrow and see.

 

Now I feel like I'm talking to myself. Anyways, I found what I was looking for. No mention of a seal so probably something I can just use RTV on.

Jaime, wait until you see what I have in store for my lawn. I should be getting a lawn striper soon and it'll set me above all the neighbors. I will then claim ownership of the HOA.

 

That's no leak, she's just happy to have you giving her so much attention.

 

I did just have a lightbulb go off. What if it wasn't a leak? The truck was at an incline, nose up, when I removed the t case. A little oil could have just seeped out when I pulled the transfer case, much like how you lose some oil when you remove a CV. I'm gonna wait and see if it continues before dropping the t case again.

 

My FIL become head of his HOA so he could approve his own projects.
